Pre lubed I'm going to cut to size
And the brass blade sighting on
A light back ground I'm having
Trouble seeing it, ( should I black
The front site blade?? And I'm
Measuringy powder by weight
Not volume, should I be using
Volume measure or stick with
Measure by weight. Dam, right
Now I'm flustered

Id like to collect some data on this game.

For the traditional ML squirrel hunters out there, what is your preferred method of hunting.

Spot and stalk?

Sit and hunt?

Still hunt?

Hunt with squirrel dogs?

Just walk through the woods?

Also, what is your preferred type of traditional ML for squirrel hunting?
I primarily hunt public grounds. Generally still hunt, with some stalk hunting mixed in. I start out early season with my 28ga, but quickly switch to my .32 Crockett Rifle and Pistol.

We have to wear it all the time while small game hunting here in PA. Sucks, but rules is rules.
Here in FL. Not required during archery or small game. It is required during muzzleloading and general gun season IF hunting deer, not hog or small game during them seasons. I guess you're safe and won't get shot as long as you're not hunting deer? 🤔

Makes ya wonder if the folks making these policies actually read the final product? 🤔 As someone whose been caught between deer drives on public land in FA season, I can tell you I wish I had more orange on than I did. I see no need for it during squirrel season. Rabbit, bird and FA deer, sure. I'll play by the rules, because I know in some countries fellas can't hunt at all. Doesn't mean I have to like it though.

Amen to that. When squirrels are in and I’m the only one hunting, I sure would love to just have camo on.

We can hunt small game without orange during big game seasons. And bow hunters can hunt without it during archery season even though there is an ml season, a rifle bear season and some limited deer and elk seasons going at the same time.

When we hunt small game in a group we usually wear orange hats. Probably not necessary but it helps keep track of each other.

I think if we didn't have to wear orange in early squirrel season, I'd take more naps in the woods. Wearing orange I fight it, would be embarrassed if I were caught coping Z's looking like the danged Great Pumpkin.

FWIW, I make my own caps with 22lr Reloader’s #10 cap die and the prime-all made by the same (original). Kinda tedious, but averages to under 2 cents per cap. I started doing this due to cap shortages and prices.

My formula, if anyone is interested:

Punch caps as directed.
Mix powder as directed.
Mix 1 part Duco Cement to 7 parts pure acetone.
Distribute primer powder across 35 caps. (Instructions say 12-15, but with the flammable cellulose-based glue in the mix, these are hot!)
Put 1-2 drops of duco/acetone mix in each cap.
Allow to dry 24 hours.

I use an empty Winchester large pistol primer plastic tray as a loading tray for these. Perfect fit.

I haven’t had a single cap fail when made this way, and I have never had a single empty cap in my tin due to powder drying and shaking out (the duco helps prevent this).

These caps will leave a reddish powder residue around your nipple, but it cleans right off.

Thank you for the information. I’m glad it’s working out well for you. I’m still contemplating doing that.

THANKS, Bud been looking into it.

Well fellas, looks like I’m a failure once again. Went to the woods this morning on a squirrel hunt/deer scouting mission and came up empty handed once again. It was overcast with light rain and gusty winds. What few squirrels I saw were up in tress and I was not able to get a shot. Not the first one was on the ground. I really needed a good squirrel because it’s been so long now, but it wasn’t meant to be.

I did find this big boulder about the size of a Volkswagen, maybe a little smaller that is very interesting. This time I happened to have had my cell with me so I could use it as a card reader for my trail cam. So, I decided to take a few pics to share with ya’
all.

This will probably have to take up a few posts to get them all.
