WISH you would send me a diagram of that seat, would love to make one. That way i dont sit on the ground, hard on back after four back operations.Hard to get up. Good luck hunting Bud.
Laney, the measurements I made this one isn’t the best. Thus my rational that it needs to be redone. Snake bit has some dimensions that most likely would be best. That’s where I got the first bit of information. Due to the padded, foldable seat cushion, I had to make this first one different. There’s also some YouTube videos that the dimensions are given.

Thanks, he was kind enough to seed them to me.

Much fancier than the diagram I shared with you Ed👍
Thanks, Tom. I wound up making this first one completely different. It’s made out of 3/4” plywood that I had lying around. I wished I had not made it so short, as well as it could stand to be a bit wider. It was basically made out of old stuff out in the garage. I’m not sure what the final dimensions will be at this time. Just winging it with everything. The padded seat changed everything.

How about light weight ratchet straps? Cut some length off. Ready made hooks and easy to adjust... if that's not what you're hanging it with. I picked up some quick clips and nylon straps on Amazon. Easy to an affix to various packs etc and cooties serve you in multiple ways.
That might work.

Tom suggested that some folks use tie down straps instead of rope. I considered it and I have some of those. However, I’m trying to keep things as simple as possible yet functional. I’m hoping this next one will work better. One inch wider on each side and at least 4” longer. That way the holes for the rope would be farther out from the tree and it should work better.

Here is yet another idea with different dimensions. I used some of this information as well as information from Tom to get the picture. I agree with Tom on this one, it might be a little too flimsy, so I shied away from that design and dimensions. I did find some of this information helpful, such as seeing how the rope ties on and how to carry it. But that’s about it for that one.

The only thing I’m not liking is the Velcro. Man I hate that stuff in the woods. Too noisy for me. Other than that ,I really like it. Ol Dean Torges would be proud.😊
You could use heavy staples and rubber coated wire, twist them into place🤔. I thought the Velcro was a good idea. I agree it's noisy, but functional.

Agreeed. I never have liked Velcro on any of my hunting equipment. I struggled to find a way to secure the sticks to this one. I’m definitely lacking space on this one due to the seat platform being too small. The original idea was to install two loops of thinner diameter rope, one at the top and one at the bottom, then slide the sticks down through those. They couldn’t fall out but they would not be completely tight, thus rattle around while packing. Also, with the too small of platform seat, the knots would have to been right under the seat cushion.
Also, that seat cushion has two straps that go around the seat platform, forward and aft. That too, has to be worked around.

So indeed, due to using whatever parts I have from old climbers, especially the seat cushion, adds additional challenges. The seat cushion is from an old loggy climber. It’s definitely too short front to aft. This is the reason the seat platform was cut as short as it was in the first place. But it simply will not be nearly comfortable as it needs to be for my damaged, train wreck of a body. Nowadays, if a seat isn’t comfortable enough, then I cannot stay in it very long. Then the moving around begins. Not good.

Tom mentioned a good idea he thought of…..adding some sort of cushion-like pad on the platform. Without doubt this will need to be done when using that particular seat cushion. A padded back rest is imported, so I have to find a way to make it all work out.

Unless I can think of an another method to hold the sticks tight, then as much as I dislike the stuff on hunting equipment, it’s looking like industrial Velcro is it. Bungee cords do not look like they would be secure, plus it’s more to keep up with in the woods.

You’ll figure it out Ed.
I think so. I’ve been in deep thought on redoing this tree seat since yesterday. I think I have a couple of ideas that will work. Heck, it works as is, I just want it to be more comfy for longer sits while squirrel hunting.

It can be better.

This morning the thought came to me that I’m going to need a sheet of 3/4” plywood for a home remodel project coming up soon. There will be some leftover material. How convenient. The ole gal can’t say anything about that one.😁

Good morning to all.
Going back a good way in this thread Jim K had posted his chairs/seats. There was some discussion about them amongst us guys.
Wife and I have some small fold up stools that we have used for years. They're good for what they are. I recon getting older and a bit stiffer has to do with needing something a little more comfortable.
My wife likes to buy me hunting gear and guns. She'll hear me talking about an item when I'm talking to someone on the phone or I'll show her something on the net. No more said about but with in a few days or weeks she'll say, "Hey, Fred, I saw this today and I thought you might like it, if ya don't I can take it back." Nothing has ever been returned.
So here's my chair. It works great for me. Carries easier than I thought, more comfortable than I thought. The back does help. If I position it close to a tree, sometimes the base of tree or roots will cause it to lean forward. After getting it out there and using it, when it does lean forward I just poke some small branches or a stalk off a palmetto and that levels it out. I can also position it where I can lean backwards and lean against the tree. Yes, I might even nod off for a little in the woods nap.

Take Care Stay Safe

Any chance you could send her my way to give relationship classes. 🤣

I have a chair like that but a flexibility problem in one leg makes it very difficult to get up from it. Wish I could use it cause there's not always a tree handy for the Torges seat. 😒
