Best of luck to you, Tim. At the very least, just getting out there is good for sure.

Unless one finds a location where there are lots of squirrels that have never been been messed with, as well as catching the weather just right, late season squirrel hunting can be difficult. Between late season and early spring season, I consider those two to be the most difficult of all.

We have until the end of February here. The weather is forecasted to warm up starting today, but as luck would have it, wind is also forecasted to increase. Unless something mighty important comes up, this ole boy is going to be in the hills here chasing squirrels regardless. If I must drop down into a steep hollow to remain out of the wind, so be it.
I got out, but the wind kicked in, seen zero. Maybe Tuesday if things go well, forecast is calling for a high of 53!

Its time for you to switch to full Comando tactics. :)
Little cold to be out there full commando!!

Nineteen degrees today with a couple inches of new snow. Not a single backyard squirrel moving and no tracks in the snow. Makes me wonder what the different factors effect them. A week ago we had a similar weather day and they were at with first light and busy all day.

I was out this afternoon. Didn’t see any. Walked around in the snow looking for tracks. The snow has been down for a week. I didn’t see many tracks considering. We can’t hunt Sundays here in PA so I believe I’ll take a big hike tomorrow and look for a good concentration of tracks for the future.
Crazy isn't it? This time of year it often seems as if there is no rhyme nor reason for when squirrels might be out and about.

Never too cold to be a true squirrel commando. Unfortunately, I have never been able achieve that status.......well, only in my mind. :)

Now the true squirrel commando is that Keller Feller, animal mortician guy up in PA. He even said that he puts his knife between his teeth and goes after squirrels. If I were to try that, I’d most likely bump into a tree and cut off one lip and half of my tongue.

Before physical therapy: Ah-bu-ba, thoo-bah, shoo-bah, whoo-wa.

After physical therapy: Hey Ed, how many squirrels did you get today? “Hee”. What? “I head hee”. What did you say? “I HEAD HEE” as I hold up three fingers. Oh, you mean you got three? “Ya, has wha I head ha hurse hime, Ya yan iyit”.

Guys I haven't been in the woods lately other than walking with the wife and Slough Dog. Been busy. Hopefully in the woods soon. I'm hope some of y'all are able to get out and get some squirrels.
Not for lack of wanting to go. Been too dang cold. And when there is a sunny day, the wind is howling. We got till the end of February. I'll take the shotgun when I do make it out.

Swamp squirrels lol. Notice 10 day overlap with deer and feral hog archery 🤨
I love swamp squirrels...
Especially when they're way in them tall cypress trees. I've yet to hunt them with a PRB, but my SxS double barrel muzzleloader load up just right with #6s reaches way up there and brings them down.

Weather man says maybe Saturday I should get to the woods. Rain all day tomorrow in the forecast tomorrow. I'll stay indoors and load up my speed loaders with 2F and #6's, give the New Englander the warning order she's going on patrol Saturday. Hopefully the squirrels cooperate 🤔
Hope you're able to get out my Brother.
New Englander and nice load of powder and #6s will put some Chicken of the Trees on the table for sure.
I'm hope for a Saturday hunt myself.
Not sure if it's going to be Britt with #6
Or Ole Redbone with .015 and .315
Hope everyone is able to get out.

My OT at work makes me wore out dog.
I also need to get Hannah out and get her sighted in. It I'm going riping up some corn and dump it out back at the Slough. See if I can't draw in some wild hog. I'd like pop one with Hannah and see what the .36 does as far as a head shot to one of them pigs. If any squirrels get into range I'll let them have it too!
Hope everyone than can get out and do some squirrel hunting gets out there. I'd like to see some pictures and read some stories.

To all, Take Care Stay Safe
