About carving on originals

I had the same thought, but Steve said an expert said it was original.
Most of the parts probably came off the original gun. Some dead give aways for an old restock: The buttplate has been narrowed and the patch box release button has been moved from the top of the buttplate to the toe plate. The stock architecture is off for a Haines. Also, the over all quality of the workmanship is far below Haines' standards. I know who his expert is, I'm surprised he missed these details.
 
Have you ever heard the old saying Lock, Stock and barrel? Well if you add a trigger to that then you have everything you need to make a serviceable firearm.
