I thought I replied to this. Guess not.

I don't reside in Michigan any more but I'm still a Michigander. I lived & worked there most of my life and retired to Prudenville from GM's Flint Tool & Die (plt. 38) in 2006. As many of you may know, Flint is a great town to get killed in or poisoned by drinking the water.
Two of my children & their families still live in mid-Michigan. I have granddaughters in WMU and SVSU. We head up there 4 or 5 times a year and are going next week to be with my daughter while she has some surgery. Ohio is an OK place but it's just not my home.

I'm a midwestern guy in the Dayton area, but originally from Toledo. Anyone in the area interested in getting together is welcome to PM me.

Into shooting flintlocks, primitive hunting, rendezvous, and long walks on a beach.

Hi Friend!
Nope, Minnesota counts too,, so we're here,
but nobody uses this section,, for anything,,
We used to be able to "close" a section from view.
Like I'm going to drive to Michigan or Ohio??
Or heaven forbid Wisconsin!!

I'm a Great Lakes Region fella as well. Born and raised most of my life up by Chicago suburbs and now reside in very Southern Illinois. Fixin to slip across the border into a Southern State.

Hi guys. Im from Rockford Illinois. Just bought a CT Hawkens 50 cal. with a brass 4X15 scope on it. Was just buying it as a wall hanger. Beautiful. Anyway now I got bug to fire it. Question. The guy thats going to help me is a hard core muzzle loader. We got talking powder. He says use black powder. The new blends can become very unstable and dangerous after 3 years. Any guidence. Thanks Paul

The substitutes won't become dangerous with age, but they can loose there potency. Real black powder lasts a real long time if you keep it dry. Also real BP ignites easier than the substitutes.

Agg, ya poor guy. Boomer's right,, it won't get dangerous,, but does tend to loose "properties" in as little as a season,, it's got to do with storage and other stuff. There can be and are ignition problems when it's not done right.
Try to follow the advice of "the guy that's going to help you" at least for a little while. It may seem overwhelming but that's because most of us are passionate about the hobby ;)
This forum can offer a bunch of tip's an tricks,, read a bunch of the percussion, shooting and general sections,, heck,, it's free.

I'm up near the bridge or tip of the mitt. Cold and snowy this month but what's new. My goal is to bag a coyote this winter with my CVA .50 Mountain rifle; there's a lot of them this year.

Ross could ty Ohio here that's about 45 miles south of comubus.... Gun season is going right now but I'm not using the smoke pole cause I haven't been able to find any percussion caps locally and work cuts into looking for some.... Thought I had a couple hundred but I have no clue where ...

I am 12 miles SW of Lansing MI. I build & hunt with my own flintlocks on my own land mostly..."and a river (the Thornapple) runs through it".
