Was just given a .40 flinter. Can home with it and discovered that it is loaded. Long story short the owner died and his wife gave it to me. The gun is in nice shape and the bore is very clean and that's when I noticed some thing didn't look right. The ram rod when dropped down the bore has the tell tail dull thud of a load being there and the rod measurement comes up short when pulled out of the barrel and laid next to it. The gun is within 15 years of manufacture. It would be Goex BP as that is all the owner ever shot. The load could be up to a year and a half old. I know this because we were shooting buddies and he was with me a year and a half ago shooting this gun. My ball puller will not fit down the 40 cal. barrel so I can't pull it. Any reason not to try shooting this load out after verifying that the load is properly seated?
