Anyone alter their shooting because of shortages?

I belong to a private shooting club, located on private property. Gov entities have no say about what goes on there. The county that I live in is a 2A sanctuary and has no restrictions whatsoever besides.

I've done my own metallic cartridge reloading going on nearly 30 years. No ammo shortage in this household. That said, I have stopped doing 300 round plinking days. I only use what I need to keep my skills sharp or develop loads.

I'm new to BP and am in the process of learning and adding BP ways and means to the larger process. Will be asking lots of questions.

Beautiful setup! Congratulations!

I can understand everyone's desire to shoot. I am one of those folks. The fact is these are not normal times, and that must be taken into consideration. I am saving all of my caps, powder, and balls for a better day, and I am afraid that is a long way off. I will have to content myself with knowing that at least one more stimulus check is coming, watching the auctions and the various dealers for what is being offered, and fondling my prized possessions and dreaming on. If you have extra C&B revolvers that you are not fond of, now is the time to sell them and make some money. If you have revolvers that are near and dear to your heart, keep them because you may never be able to replace them. Who knows what Pietta, Uberti, et al, will be offering in a year from now (yes, a year!)

Think long term, folks.

Regards,

Jim
You make some good points. I had a very nice phone conversation with a rep from EMF last week. They told me that Italy has gone back into lockdown atm but plans on reopening in April. They(EMF) expect to have more inventory by August/Sept. of this year.

Please let me explain...I know in the past it was a fairly common practice to dry fire some caps on empty chambers to clear the nipples before a shooting session. However, with the required acoutrements being in short supply I am now using a nipple pick to clear any grease or oil obstruction before firing. I simply don't want to waste 6 caps. I have found this to work in every case but maybe once.

To me, popping caps to clear the nipples are a waste of good caps; especially nowadays.
Before loading, I look thru the holes from the rear.
If I see daylight, it’s clear. Also, cap residue from popping caps before loading will sometimes clog a previously clear nipple hole.

Thanks for the update.

Make you own caps and you don't have to worry about them check out prime all online they have punches to make caps and powder to reload them

Speaking of altering their shooting, I have heard of a few ranges requiring masks.

I use a heat a seat as a sandbag and one day, I fired my colt navy revolver from it and burned a large hole in the cover and now the filling is falling out.

My God, if that was a mask on my face, that could have turned out bad...

Seems like a safety hazard for us black powder shooters... I could see how that would alter someone's shooting if their usual range required masks. Geez.

The range I use (run by the U.S. Forest Service) is set up for social distancing with every other shooting bench closed. The range is big enough I've not experienced waiting for a position to shoot. (but I shoot during weekdays). Some wear masks. Some don't. It's open and breezy enough I don't usually worry, but keep one handy. Rifle and pistol users have separate ranges divided by a large berm. There's also hand sanitizing stations. And there's two Range Safety Officers on duty at all times to enforce the rules and offer advice. It's quite the setup. And to the original question, I've had no trouble getting BP supplies. Still have supply of the detested Pyrodex. But I will have to go hunting for 3f in a few months.

So far no change here, lots of public land, no mask required and social Distancing not a problem....I did have to tell a chipmunk to "back off a few feet" last week.
Unmentionable ammo, well we are all in the same canoe.😞

End of 2019 I stocked up with consumables, made paper cartridges, bought in caps etc. for the 2020 shooting season.

went to Bisley in March 2020 with the intention of a full year’s shooting. Come and of March, sent home -stay home.

Kit aplenty, ranges not available.

I would go to jail if I ‘discharged a firearm’ within 30 feet of a public highway or on land not approved.

Luckily I have an air pistol to practice hold and trigger control but no lovely satisfying bang/flame/smoke big cheesy grin.

Boy, you Brits sure have to put up with a lot over there.
Ever consider moving a couple thousand or more miles West?
We have a lot of the same kind of people that mucked up your country doing the same to us here, but we are still better off ( so far ).
