anyone use a plain dowel as a ramrod?

I made a range rod for my .54 cal 44" bbl. I put a 1.5" X 6" dowel handle. Drilled 1/2" hole 3 and 7/8" deep into the handle, glued, pushed it onto the dowel and pinned it. And, it's perfect for the range.
