I have a couple barrels for up-coming projects and want to know what experience some of you have with these and other brands. First is a couple barrels from DeHass. I just can't find much information out there on his barrels. What I did find was positive, but I'd like to hear any experience someone has with his products.

One other one was Green River Rifle works. I know I bought this .45 caliber barrel from Track a few years ago (5+?) and they were some old stock that had endmill marks on them that required a bit of drawfiling to clean up.

If anyone has some info, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Mostly I read about rice, colrain, getz, and a few others, but I can't find much on DeHass to get a feeling of the quality or accuraccy expectations.

Thanks

Msalm, I have a couple of pistols with Green River Rifle Works barrels on them, one .50 and the other in .54, and they both do very well. There isn't much more I can say about them now, except that they are both 9" barrels. My experience with them, however, makes me think you will like your .45 caliber rifle barrel by the same maker. Don't know and have never heard of Del-lass barrels. Now if you mean Douglas then you have a good barrel as well Green River Rifle Works both were known to be quality made barrels in there time frame. It's like saying a 57 Cadillac was a great car in 57 but you can't find one now. These were some of the best you could get at the time. Should still make a fine rifle.

That is Mark DeHass. Very little info on his barrels, but what little I could find were very good reports.

I have used a few Green River barrels. The last one I turned myself to create an octagon to round. Worked very well. Compared to a Colerain barrel: The GR barrel is easier to work with (finish wise) but lags behind in the accuracy dept. However, plenty, accurate for hunting out to 70yds. It is a good barrel at a good price. I have heard Getz is the barrel to use. My next rifle will have one on it.

Based on my limited dealings with him, Mark De haas is a really good guy and his barrels are quite nice. I've handled one straight .54 with round bottom grooves. The interior was super slick. He keeps some stuff in stock, but last I talked with him his lead time on special items was about 2 months. He makes straight octagons and tapers from 3/4 - 1 1/4" in lengths up to 48", round and round tapers up to 36", O/R tapers and O/R swamps up to 48". Calibers run .30 to 12 ga, IRRC.

My brother has a Mark DeHaas barrel on his new .45, and I had the opportunity to run a cleaning patch down the barrel while he was getting something from the car. Super slick, and very accurate. No tight spots, as he laps the barrels before shipping them. Mark's barrels are first rate, and used by serious target shooters.

I won a DeHaas barrel out to Bevel brothers log shoot a few years ago. Although I haven't done anything with it yet I will say that it looks & feels fantastic. I would be quite suprised if it wouldn't shoot.

I have two Green river guns .they don't take a back seat to anything else I have , Getz or Rice I like em..........Stickwalker

Those barrels from Track about 5 years ago or longer were made with Green River Rifle Works machinery, in Michigan, I think. GRRW went out of business maybe 1980 or so, but a long time ago. The barrels by Track were not Green River barrels, only made with their (second or third hand) machinery. I had one and found a loose spot in the bore and sent it back. Yours might be good, but it ain't a Green River barrel unless it is of old stock. Their barrels were not all marked that I've seen, but I have a .58 that is stamped GRRW .58 1-60 on the end of the breech. If yours is marked like that, with GRRW, it is a Green River and it will be a good bore regardless of the exterior.

Have both Rice and Getz barrels. Both are great shooters! However if you go with Getz be prepared to wait a long time. If you call and leave a message don't wait by the phone for a return call.

So far I have built three flintlock rifles around barrels made by Mark deHass. I have also owned a very nice swivel breech 45 cal. rifle built by Leonard Day. Mr. Day used a lot of deHass barrels and all I can say is they are the best available! The rifle pictured is my version of a transition piece. Kind of like an early Germanic stocked in America. It has a 50 cal. deHass tapered oct. to round barrel. It is a tack driver!
