Hey Guys
Here is some thing for thought... The blaze orange thing in Ontario was not manditory for years. However there were more hunting accidents with people wearing blaze than those not... who would hae figured that eh? Doesn't all come down to maybe there should be a choice. The Conservation officers that I have talked to say they only like it because they can see who is hunting. Anyone else up here in the bush doesn't have to wear it... see what I mean.. maybe we should include bright red, or yellow as well... just a thought.

pretty sure we went thru this on roundballs post in n.c. about who had to or not..imo if its mandatory.everyone wears it,hunter, fisher, biker,(jethro), walkers birdwatchers skiers horseback riders etc...OR ya get the (oh gees i hate this!) ya get "if it ain't orange shoot it" much worser than "brown it's down" not keen on that either but..lesser of two evils???? The way our law is written it says wear it:
"if hunting WITH a firearm".

It should read:
"everybody wears it IF AFIELD DURING a firearms season".

OR...nobody should have to wear it at all.

Okay, i know i don't get out in the woods much :rotf: but WHEN is the last time you seen a CO IN the WOODS???? (an the first one that says "well if they wore orange,,,,,,) gets :cursing: something really really bad! RC

i know a few CO's.. now picture if you will a CO that you respect talkin to a man who just shot someone and the man says.." but he wasn't wearin orange!" the guys i know would slap him..i hope! accidents happen...orange will not stop stupidity or carelessness......... wait..IMHO! okay..RC

One thing about the Adirondacks (northern zone), you don't have to wear orange but you have to stop hunting right at sunset. Always hated losing the best hour to hunt, half hour before sunrise, half hour after sunset. I'd gladly trade wearing orange for that hour. Down here we have to wear orange and we can hunt that hour of the day.

Oh great, now I done it. This weekend is late-winter doe season (brown ones). Now that I got me an OMEN I'll prolly only see white bucks wearin' orange vests. :shocked2:

yes yer right...but i'd bet (lots!) that is the most broken law in N.Y. never seen or heard of it being enforced ...well in tween daylight and dusk... hard to enforce too.. if yer walkin thru the woods after sunset,carrying a gun..loaded or not..technically yer huntin..right?????

It's really not the gov't telling a person to wear blaze orange, it's just realizing the possible consequences of not wearing it and just plain old common sense. I for one think that wearing blaze orange makes a lot of sense and although I too don't like the gov't to mandate some things, if they didn't do some, we'd be living in a "jungle". When my kids were young they didn't like to be told what to do but then they grew up. :hmm: ....Fred
