Runner,
Law or no law I don't deer hunt without
my orange on and insist anyone I hunt with wear
it also. This has never been a problem because
it is the law and I for one am grateful
for it. M2C
snake-eyes :hmm:

snake eyes.. that's great if ya don't mind..but question is..in ohio..does everyone have to wear it or only the hunters? thats my beef..er venison...RC

Just the hunters. IMHO if you are out in the woods during the season it would be in your best interest to wear orange. There are a lot of crazy city folk who go out and shoot anything that moves. :shake:

my thoughts exactly ...thats why if hunters have to so should everyone else ..least if they miss me i can shoot back..if yer birdwatchin all ya can do is flip a bird at em.....huh? :hmm: :shocked2:

In my opinion camo is not for the deer, but for the small animals and birds. This goes for the gun as well. Fully camoflaged, the small animals are active right up to me, without they shy away. The deer seem to slip around the dead zones. All that said movement controll is paramount!
Ive been sitting in a orange hat and vest and had birds land right next to me,and squirrels right by me.They didnt pay any attention to me.

PA doesn't require the tree huggers to wear orange, but most of them have enough brains to avoid deep woods walks during the gun deer season. The fall early ML season is a problem though, as well as the fall turkey seasons. Most of them don't know there's a hunting season going on. But the state does post warnings in some parking lots about them wearing orange.

well ain't a bad idea to post a warning ...jes seems with all the "good" press hunters get a non hunter won't go near the woods anyway...? an i suppose if ya made a law sayin they had to wear orange during huntin season..they wouldn't know bout it anyway..but i still think if 1 has too all should have too.,, guees here in n.y. when they was talkin about makin it a law,(well they still are) it did not include turkey hunters...seems the boys get at least a few up here every year... course most of them is "stalkin" a gobblin "turkey" course most of of the decoys should have orange on them, save the hunters a bunch of money :shocked2: but that self inflicted number ain't gonna drop...that's gotta be near the top..... :( RC

dIn Illinois, everyone is required to wear blaze orange during the shotgun deer season including bunny huggers. Unfortunately, the cops rarely give out tickets to these people. I did witness a conseration stop some rabbit hunters walking a railroad track next to the farm where we had a number of shooters out deer hunting, and he did ticket them for not having hunting licenses. I don't think he issued tickets for not wearing blaze orange. He told them about the requrirement. I wish he had seized their guns and taken them to jail. I do not like poachers, and poachers not wearing blaze orange during deer season is an added concern. You never know if they are simply waiting for an opportunity to steal a deer you killed by haven't gotten to. It happened to a friend of mine. He found me to help him track his deer, and when we got back to his stand, there was a gut pile left within 30 feet of where he shot the deer, and the tracks showed that someone had come onto the property from the neighbors, gutted the deer, and then dragged her back out. We tracked the deer, and it was the same deer he had shot. Not only didn't we hear any other shots, ( and we would have, as the loop onto the neighbor's property was surprisingly short) but there was no indication of a second hit in her tracks. They just stole his deer.

that is very sad paul... i don't understand..good place fer a accidental shootin...well it's the thought that counts..how come they never get caught?????????????? gees :cursing: RC

zHow come most cops are not taught to read footprint evidence, or sign? If they could do that, they probably would actually catch more crooks.

We didn't bother to call the conservation officers on this, becuase they would not be able to read the footprint evidence we could, and would not take any action because they didn't see the poachers at work themselves. Don and I were both volunteer Hunter Safety instructors at the time, too.

WELL, Paul, here we have a couple of forest rangers that are real good with that sign readin..specially if'n a man gets lost..in the snow with mooses around..guess covered tracks, man or moose are pretty hard to read, unless ya actually uncover them..they found the guy,an the moose..the moose was okay...the man..well happy huntin ground? besides now days most are book smart...trackin by book is pretty simple...turn the page....aw gees..an it's true! sad. but true!

Here in Wisconsin it is the law. Either wear it or expect to pay the fine. While I'm not fond of wearing it, can't see where it has ever cost me an animal. I just wear the min of what I can get by with. I am also hunting on my own land, and if there is anyone else on the land I know where that person is.

this topic was quite interesting. Blaze orange, you bet I wear it. We hunt with primative firearms but here in NC you're allowed to hunt with in-line rifles during blackpowder season. I'm not lumping all in-line hunters together here
these are just some observations I've made over the past several seasons. Joe wants to be the great white hunter, so his wife or girl friend goes out and buys him a nice in-line rifle the
day before opening season. Joe has a friend who
has 1 year of hunting experience behind him and
offers to take Joe hunting opening day. Joe's
friend shows joe how to load the rifle, where the
safety is located and there off on the hunt. No
we don't need to sight in the rifle it's dead on
out to 200 yards right out of the box, he seen the ads. How many Joes are we sharing the woods with? Wear blaze orange, Hell yes!!

I wish we had that law here it might have saved a ladies life this seasion past. I dond't know if the guy was sound shootin ( a definet no no in my book)or if she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was on government land and she was taking a walk in the bush about 400 yards off the trail. If she had been werring blaze orange and a better knowlage of the huntting season she might still be here. My 2 cents Dave T. :v

In my opinion people that shoot someone mistaking them for game should be charged with Man slaugther or at the very least loose their hunting privilege for life. There's absolutly NO excuse for it. :shake:

I wear orange because it's the law and also because there are idiots out there that WILL shoot you.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to show my solution to blaze orange - I bought the waistcoat from Michael Pullins of Ohio Valley Trader a couple of years ago. The only garment I've ever seen made with blaze wool - and it's reversible to dark green. He doesn't have a web site, but if you're interested, PT me and I'll give you contact info.

My son and I sat this morning along the edge of an orchard and had so many squirrels and chipmunks run right past us that I know it doesn't bother them. He had a chippie even stand on the end of his flinter and he started laughing it was so funny. All the while we were in blaze vests and hats. I can't wait for late flint season so I can ditch the orange. It just looks wrong!

Hello from GErmany,

as far as I know are the whitetails and nearly all other kinds of deer only able to see black and white, but not coloured.Deers see best when the object moves.

So blaze orange doesn't disturb them.

Kirrmeister
