Just a thought here but has anyone considered making a golf ball size short blunderbuss ?? It sounds like it would be fun !! If so - any ideas where to get a barrel that size ? :hmm:

Thanks oldbadger

I think the Rifle Shoppe has the parts to make a Grenate launcher based on Long Land Pattern locks and furniture. It shoots a tennis ball or racquette ball sized projectile.

We have one in the Unit. Makes quite a display of smoke when you fill the ball with black powder and flour.

wish i knew where you could get a bbl that size, but i don't. do like the way you think. good luck on the project if you decide to follow it up..

..ttfn..grampa..

PS... think the cannon guys have somesort of pipes tubes, or other to shoot golf balls. you mite check there.

I think you'll have more luck matching spherical projectiles with available barrels and not the other way round. Not a big selection of blunderbuss barrels out there.

I was thinking of putting a stock on my golf ball mortar barrel for a while. Mine was made with seamless tubing and a shouldered (two diameter but not threaded) breech plug. A friend of mine with a lathe and boring bar bored out the barrel to match the breech plug. The barrel is 6 inches long and the golf ball will rip out of there if you don't load it down. We never saw the first shot in any of its trajectory. After loading it down it would drop a ball 100 feet from the firing line. Have to check my records but think I was using a 9mm case of fff (13 grains). Good luck on your project and show us some pictures if it gets off the drawing board. GC

GC,
Do you fire the golf ball bare? Put a wad under it? Or patch it like an LRB?
I should think bare would scorch it considerably. Just a wad would rip material off the outside.
Would a longer bore be of any advantage?
