Brown Bess Sling

I have recently bought a Navy Arms Brown Bess made in 1976 for the bicentennial. It is marked "Stowe 1776", it is really well made. My question is that its sling swivels are 2 1/8" wide, inside dimension. I can't find a sling that wide. Also what is the proper sling, with buckle, without buckle, sliding buckle or one with holes punched? Also what size flint size does it take? The jaws are 1" wide.

I have been collecting military rifles for a long time but this my first flintlock. Any help would be appreciated.

Purchase the standard bess sling from DIXIE GUN WORKS, G.Gedney godwin, maybe Track of the Wolf.
The flints are 1" to 1 1/8" size. Track of the wolf is the best place to buy them.

G Gedney Godwin has slings in white and tan. Read the review at Dixie before you buy there.

middlesex village trading company has slings also for the Bess you can go to their site and click on accessories .I have one of theirs on my Bess and I like it.

If you are going to shoot the Bess I recommend a leather sling. My Bess has a flash guard on it that protects the shooter standing to my right. The guard directs the blast from the touch hole down.

I used to have a linen strap made of a piece of linen folded over about 6 times and then sewed. It worked great for years. However one time I was at a woods walk and after the first few shots I noticed that something near me was burning. After looking around on the ground for burning patches I noticed that my arm was getting hot and I was astonished to see that the sling was on fire. We had to douse it with water from a canteen to put it out. I replaced the linen sling with a white leather sling.

If you get the sling from Dixie, you will need a drill bit to make a couple holes further down the strap. As it comes, the holes leave it too short to carry on the shoulder. That, and the tail hangs loose and would need securement with a tie or something.
