36 cal Vincent with a mule ear lock. I have also done well with this gun in competition. She's sweet and deadly.

Squirrels hunting is a passion of mine! Fortunately, I live in Missouri where the season almost 9 months long. I have two squirrel guns. My favorite is Ole Betsy. She is a 12 gauge smoothbore.

These are two squirrels I killed this past Sunday. Our season ends the 15th of this month so I'm trying to go out strong. By the looks of that boar, we still have plenty of winter left to contend with!

This is Miss Daisy. She's a 32 caliber. I love to shoot her and she's hell on a squirrel's head but I generally only break her out when the squirrels are cutting nuts and sitting still.

Both guns were made for me by my good friend, John Pruitt, in Spring City, TN.

The photos remind me that I love ALL front stuffers. We all like to talk about the guns we have, but few of us are not wanting another. I'm sure I do. In the interim, we use what we have. If I can drag myself out of the flint lock era, I imagine I could ge by easily with a big bore percussion rifle and a quality .36 or .44 revolver. THE most accurate BP revolver I've ever owned was the Ruger. 21 grains under a proper round ball was a terrific small game 44. I sure wish I had kept that gun.
But my point is, that the Ruger and a percussion Hawken made me a true man of the western plains.

The last pick is a Richards 12 ga. double. Not a rabbit or squirrel can move fast enough 😉

Rabbit Hunting with my Brown Bess in western Colorado. Amazing hunting…headed out again this fall…Fusil de Chase this year.

The hunt that goes with this image, was a hunt that I did with my dad. I wrote about the hunt, for Fur Fish Game Magazine. Published the article, and gave a copy of the magazine, that had the article, and the check that FFG paid me for the article to my dad as a birthday gift that year…

Used to walk into a Pa. hemlock woods in a hollow on private ground , we had permission to hunt. Hunting there , used my 10 Ga. SBS Pedersoli. The grey's were plenty , so the trick , was to be patient , and not fire , until one squirrel per barrel , could be secured. After the first volley ,then it was usually one at a time ,until enough for a nice mess was obtained. Was fun. Used 1.5 oz. #5 shot w/ the same volume FFG. That got 'er done.......oldwood

Happen to have link to the story?

If it was online somewhere you could post a link. If not, no big deal. Thought it might be fun to read.
I have the original draft saved…somewhere.

I had one of our English Teachers edit it before I called FFG and talked with them about submitting it. I’ll try and find the article, photograph it and post the story. Heck I wonder if someone here has that issue, Brown Bess Bunnies…I believe is the name they gave it

I went back to an old account. I see where I talked about posting the article. I can’t see that I actually posted it.

I found where I did post a story about one of my blackpowder elk hunts, kind of a funny story…

I have every issue Of FFG since around 1980 I will definitely read that article again. I love squirrel hunting with my 32 cal rifles. Going to try and stalk a few cotton tails this year also.

I hope that you enjoy it. It was a grand hunt. Very edited from the original submission, but the gist of the experience is still intact.
