Hi All, Sometimes I have a problem with my cap not going off, I use CCI # 11 magnums. Im not sure what the problem is but sometimes, not often, when I drop the hammer of my TC White mountain carbine nothing happens. Could it be that I'm not seating the cap on the nipple properly? Has anyone else experienced this. If so what was your diagnosis and cure?

make sure you have good square alignment between the hammer cop and the nipple, also check to see that you dont have any spent caps stuck in the hammer cop or a buildup of residue. also that the hammer is moving freely and not cruded up against the side plate.
I have had zero issues with the cci 11 mag caps thusfar.

Chuck your nipple into a drill and using a fine file and sandpaper, turn down the diameter a bit. This should allow your cap to seat firmly. Be careful not to take too much off, it should be snug. I had this same problem for a while, the first hammerfall would seat the cap, then the second set it off. Since I turned it down, no more problems.

Had the same problem and the same fix at Boy Scout Camps a couple weeks ago.
Fox

Yes I have had the same problem you describe. I hunt with a Lyman Trade Rifle and use CCI #11, Magnum caps. I'm going to try the fix described by Black Hand and Silver Fox, as the nipple appears to be too large to allow the cap to seat properly.

Had problems with caps not popping on my GPR, several years ago. I replaced the nipple with a Spit Fire nipple from Dixie and haven't had a problem since. I have read alot of people here have had the same problem. They too replaced the factory nipple, which seems to solve most of their problems.

First you look inside the hammer nose. Unlikely to have a dry firing dent, but make sure it isn't full of old caps, they work like little shock absorbers

Had the same problems with caps of the German firm RWS. I put them on the nipple, press it a bit down, but after pulling the trigger of my Investarm hawken nothing happended. Need always a second try. problem was the caps are to cones, so they really don't fit on the nipple. changed caps. now I'm using caps from Sellier an Bellot, a czech firm, they are more cylindric and work pretty good. no misfire at all.

Greetings from GE

I have a Trade Rifle I have shot for over 15 years using Uncle Mikes Hotshot nipples.Just used up a box of a 1000 cci regular nipples, never had a problem with them, but when I started to use a new tin of them that I just bought,I had problems with them not seating right.I filed and sandpapered the nipple as has been mentioned, but then had problems with them not going off the first time.I then discoverd that a couple of the members of my club also had the same expierance, and when they switched to another brand,(remington in this case),the problem went away.I think CCI has some manufacturing problems.

I've had a few problems with CCI caps in the past too. Remington caps have always worked better for me. Also, as mentioned, nipples do tend to deform after enough shooting and need to be dressed into shape again. I've had plenty of both problems. :)

All my problems went away when I started shooting Remington caps. They are fluted and stick on better than anyone's elses.
