Rob how far below the ram rod line (bottom of ram rod ) do you file to ,how much do you leave below bottom of the ram rod .I hope that’s clear
to you.and that bottom part by the trigger ends up sort on a flat plain.

Well .... I was just kinda playing around with bending the buttplate to shape but , man ....its right there ! Right where I want it BUT .... I do have to anneal it tomorrow . This is some of the toughest steel ive ever worked with , its crazy tough .... I'll go and annesl it a few times at mybuddies with his torch . I sure wish I had some d@mn coal and my forge was in working condition! I need to deep anneal this buttplate and I have a couple NW trigger guard to forge out too ! Weird livin in the heart of Ohio coal country and now there's no coal to be found ...crazy . Oh well ... I'm the king of make due . Sure hope the buttplate co operates , but I have my doubts after the last one ! Really want this B.P. nailed on tomorrow so I can rough now n the shape of the gun from mortices back, that'd be great !! We'll see what tomorrow brings .... Time ta rock on the porch and watch the birds as the sun sets . Love ma birds

Well ...I annealed it twice but its still tough as he// ....hope it works ...love the looks of this 100 year old steel though

Start inletting the tang , then cut off extra at end and shape ....

Welp , got it cut to length , shaped correctly , drilled the holes , its actually fitting quite nicely , will wonders never cease ! ....made my home made nails , put the B.P. on the stock fit nicely , got it all nailed on , fit quite nicely ....storage thing ...one of the middle nails was backing out when I was hammering the edges down ....ok , that has never happened before ??? SO .... I made a new longer nail , pulled the troubles me some nail , put it in the spot then went back over everything again . Looks good . Gonna let it sit . Just as I'm putting the gun off to the side I see it . The trouble some nail replacement ....the flat square head came off ....&%$# d@&% it !!! That has never happened before either !! Time for a break .... D@mn !! The edges look good but d@mn .... Oh well

Can't wait to get this butt plate squared away . When I'm done d!ckin with it I can rough shape the stock from mortices back , then make the trigger guard , then drill the tang bolt ... about 2-3 days work and then that means , drum roll plz .... I get to shoot it for the first time !!! Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee !!! pic from a previous build ....
