My order of CCI Standard #11 percussion caps arrived today, or so I thought.

The only problem is they sent #11 Magnum caps by mistake. :cursing:

Is this something I need to correct and send back, or should I just count myself lucky? :hmm:

I don't want them if they will adversely affect accuracy since I really don't need them for my T/C rifles and ROA's.

I ordered 2000 of them btw, so it will take me awhile to use them up.

Mag caps is all I have ever used, I have standard caps intermixed with mag caps when I shoot at the range, cant tell the difference

I switched to the CCI #11 mags when they came out back in the 90's and never looked back...always thought they were excellent, more reliable, shot perfectly, and no changes had to be made, etc...funny coincidence...the last batch I bought was also 2000...the following year I tried my first Flintlock and about 1500 of them have been sealed tight in ziploc bags ever since

Speaking only for myself, I have noticed that the CCI Magnum caps almost totally eliminate any mis-fires when using Pyrodex and the possibility of a mis-fire when using real black powder is out of the question.

I haven't noticed any difference in the point of aim in any of my rifles whether using standard caps or the Magnum caps.

Normally, unless someone was stuck with using one of the synthetic powders I would not recommend buying the Magnum caps, but that is only because many places ask a higher price for them. Not because they will cause problems in a gun.

Based on this I would say "count you blessings" and enjoy using them. You will be very pleased.

Once I started using the Magnums I too never looked back.

I use them exclusively and find they perform better than the regular #11 caps.

Wow! I'm surprised at all the responses. Most of you are saying to keep them because they don't cause any problems. I'm thinking I will, just because you guys say so!

I think I'll tell the vendor though, maybe they will send me something neat for free because they are so embarrassed about their mix up. :rotf:

The shipping sheet even had a penciled in check mark next to the CCI #11 Standard entry.

Absolutely tell the vendor. He needs to know he has a "quality escape".

I rather doubt he will want them back. All the places I know won't take powder or primers back even if they screwed up due to the hazmat fees, plus, there's the issue of whether you packed them properly to meet explosives shipping regs. He might just let you keep them and send another 2000 of the regular ones...

...and then you should go out and buy a lottery ticket...

Lately I've been using the new Remington caps, they are at least as hot as the CCI mags (have used them when loading Pyro in my .50's) and cost little cheaper than the regulars.

Perhaps he was out of the regular caps. The magnums are better than the regular. Sweet deals like that do not come along often. I lucked up on a lifetime supply of CCI caps when Wal Mart cleared out their gun selections. 36 tins at $1.50 per tin.

Yup, these were $27 per 1000. But, since I had to pay that additional $20 Hazmat fee, I also ordered a bunch of powder too. They got the powder right though.

The CCI Magnums work really well with the Uberti revolvers, especially after firing them a few times! You're less likely to have a missfire even with a semi-dirty nipple on the revolvers!

As for the rifle, you may notice some change in where the rounds wind-up on the paper, but usually only at the longer 100 yard distances. At normal hunting range of say 75 yards or less, you won't notice anything at all.

Sometimes with the revolvers, when you're too lazy to clean the cylinder and nipples before you shoot the last cylinders' worth for the day, you'll be glad to be using the magnum caps  .

Switched from reg. CCI caps to the Mags w/ my two elk rifles and didn't have to make any changes in the sights. Switched because the Mags are more available at local stores......Fred

I haven’t heard a word from the vendor, so imagine my surprise when I came home today.

A small package from Widener’s was waiting for me. It didn’t have the usual orange stickers on it signifying “Small Arms Ammunition” or “Hazardous Materials” or whatever those darned stickers say. Just a small innocuous brown box delivered to my doorstop.

So I opened it and inside are two cases of CCI Standard Percussion Caps. No shipping paperwork or other forms to fill out, no letter of instructions of what I should do with the other 2000 caps they mistakenly sent me.

But, there was an UPS return goods sticker buried in there, so I guess their intent is for me to send back the Magnum caps.

However, don’t I need to indicate on the return package that the contents are “Hazardous” or something like that?

You would think they could send me an email with instructions, wouldn’t you? Or maybe a phone call or letter even.

I sure don’t want to break any law by sending these caps unmarked, so I am tempted to just hang tight and wait to see what they do next if I don’t immediately send them back. It goes against the grain that I would have to do the work to figure out how to send these back to them.

What would you do in my shoes?
