How does a person clean the tarnish or rust off of a throwing knife or a hawk blade. M :what:ne got bad fast. HELP

Tarnish is usually considered "desirable" on a carbon steel blade. Makes them look used. The bluish black or grey 'finish' on used carbon steel blades is normal. Now rust is another beast and like the other fellow said, a mild abrasive pad or 0000 steel wool pad with light oil or WD40 will take off most rust and help prevent rust from continuing. Clean off your blades after use and put a light coat of good light gun oil or sewing machine oil, etc. on them to keep rust off.

A greenie pad with some WD-40 works for me.
Same thing, but with mineral oil. Mostly cause I'm cheap, and the danged wd-40 is always hiding in the car.
