tg, not apples to apples, and i know that.

but with my "modern pointed bullets", inside 300 yards they don't ussually even exit a woodchuck, but at 500 plus they start giving me exits on whitetail.

They have a performance velocity and until they slow down to that fps they just "explode" on impact. while i see your point, i don't believe the other viewpoint is out of the questiun if someone has their .45 roundball rocking out above 1500 fps. JMHO
 
I don't know but every person who has talked about their penetration with a ball have claimed that the pass thrus are common at close range and the longer shots may not and this is due to the loss of speed not the density of the lead which at any ML speeds probably will not be effected that much by the properties of the ball but by the speed of the ball
