Not wanting to promote Mike Brooks guns, he's rude, but if you bought two of the India guns, weren't you over half way to a nice Mike Brooks gun? :hmm:

NOT!

Hey Chicken Man !
The way of a crusader is a lonely one is it not?

I think you must have run out of pearls given the brevity of your latest post but you do have a way with words
By the way,I just got a great study piece,a probable Liegeoise iron mounted Fusil Fin in original flint with a flat faced lock. It's in relic condition, rough, and dates to Ca.1700.

"Scary sounding tg, how big are those lead boxes?'

They hold a lot of BS peddlers, Va Manuf 06 and I find that very usefull. I see now we have a new term for telling the facts about an item ..RUDE, now where did I put that lead box?

Well Tom, there is a definatly skewed ratio here with those that know and those what don't and don't care, the results we see are pretty much expected, I hear Pakistan is offering a fine line of artificial Pearls, might be just the ticket, fight fire with fire don't ya know.Nothing aimed at you BD just a general observation.

That's great Tom. I just recieved some pictures of your display at the CLA....you da man....as usual.
I've been pursuing tractors lately instead of rusty old guns....I'll call you soon.

I traded for the Curry guns
I am going to have one of Mikes guns
someday
unless Mike does not want my money
Mike....Your Guns are fine pieces of art
And someday I would be proud to say I own one
True Craftsmen are hard to find these days
What it comes down to ,is that I am a poor fellow
And have to make do with what I have.

There is nothing wrong with making do with what you can afford. That Cookson looks good and if you have to fit, file, and shave to get it to suit you, then that is all that counts. For us that cannot afford to pay someone to build us a rifle, then we have to make do. It does not matter what other people think. Will I ever own a custom made rifle? The answer is NO!! I cannot justify spending that kinda money on just 1 gun with no more than I shoot. :hatsoff:

I don't know exactly what our Mr. Brooks meant by.
Whether he was referring to my not promoting his guns or whether he's rude.

I traded for the Curry guns

And that clears that up. Because the cost of two India guns would have put you the lion's share over half way to one of Mike Brooks guns. The best of luck with you decision.

Hey, I never suggested anyone buy one of my guns. There's lots of builders out there that work for less than I do. Find a builder you like and go with it.

Here is a builder cheaper than Mike.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I am glad to see a fellow from India with a job, as he very likely has a family to feed and India has been an important ally over the years. Geez, these guns could also be coming from the Peoples Republic of China y'know ...

India making English type Officers Fusil guns very bad. How dare they replicate a English gun and sell it in the good old USA.

It is not right. As an example, only Americans like M. Brooks should have the right to make modern guns with good old made iin the USA parts made in modern ways, with modern barrels and locks....

And get to call them, Truly historically and period correct English guns...right down to the stainless steel touch hole liner they put in all their guns....

BD started this thread to share a project and ask questions, in a polite and non-confrontational manner. And it sure went south. Sheesh.

Damned straight Gizzy.

Do you guys do realize that the MVT "officer's fusil" is a complete fantasy?... The original they supposedly base it on isn't even from the Revolution, much less the F&I War. It was made much closer to 1800 than to 1760. It isn't an officer's gun either... its a cheap, light export musket.

The so-called "Cookson" is even stranger. I'm quite familiar with the original it is based on and the only "Cookson" part is the lock plate. There is a true, untouched Cookson fowler in existence. I've handled it several times, in fact, I delivered it to the present owner from the previous one and he'd had it since about the mid 1930s. It looks nothing at all like the gun MVT sells... This business of taking the claims of retailers as representing some sort of reliable historical source is ludicrous.

We have a split group here some don't care about the valid hiostory and if anyone questions anything they start a rant and rave aout the pc Nazis, the other side knows about the history, and shares it with others to do with as they wish and often are quite blunt when a member of the first group asks a question when replying and that sets off another flame fest, many ask questions that they really are not prepared to accept the answers, this is not directed at BD just a general observation about the two levels of interest/knowledge here.

"After all, we all have in common that we love and respect muzzleloading firearms."

I am not so sure about that Bill, I think many are just there to take another Deer,I certanly see great disrespect for the traditional gear, it does not have to be just an &^%* line to not fit in, there is much more to a ML outfit than just loading from the front. Each is within their rights to use what they want but I just suggest being honest with ones self and others about some things.
