Finally, I've done it...

Well, some of you may remember me from a couple years ago when I was first looking into muzzleloaders and then I kinda just got caught up in all my schoolwork and forgot about it. But now I am holding my first ever Flintlock muzzleloader! Just got it in the mail today, It is a Lyman trade rifle in flintlock. I got it straight from Lyman as a "reconditioned" muzzleloader and it only set me back $221.00 Overall I am extremely pleased with the rifle and if it shoots half as good as it looks I'll be more than satisfied.
I am greatfull for all the knowledge that you folks have given me and am proud to now truly be one of you.

ah, that brings back such nice memories! you're gonna love it, I bought one 18 yrs ago just like that, killed my 2nd deer ever with it - a 125 lb 6 pointer. I hope yours brings you the best of luck also. I still have that gun laying around in parts, it's seen alot of mods over the years but I'm working on restoring it back to original condition so I can hunt with her again.

Hello from Germany!

Congrats to this Lyman product. You will like it. I have a Lyman Hawken flinter which is similar to the trade rifle and a GPR, both in .54. They are well done and straight shooters. The flintlock is sparking good and ignition is also good. Maybe you'll have to drill out the venthole a bit. What cal. has the rifle?

just got home with my gpr flint got it today. is your frizzin black, i got mine used and was told it was not shot much. most of the the frizzin is black with very litlle sign of use?

lymen sells factory reconditioned rifles?
if the price is good then that's an idea for a
good entry level rifle.

The caliber is .50 as there is very few places anywhere near here that carry projectiles for anything else.

As for the frizzen, mine is grey, about the colour of an oiled up old quarter.

And I had already bought powder, .490 roundballs and 460 grain great plains conicals before the rifle ever got here. I was a little excited I guess.

And yes Lyman sells factory reconditioned rifles. although I dont know if reconditioned it the proper term for them... Basically they are just rifles with blemishes in the finish meaning they cant sell them as first quality rifles.

If you want to pound your shoulder really good get yourself a .50 Lee minnie mold and run some off.
That trade rifle will handle them really good with about 60 gr 3 FFF POWDER. :hatsoff:
