First of all I would like to thank all of you for the help you have given me on building long rifles. Some questions I had to ask, but most were answered by reading the posts. Here are a couple photos of the two rifles I have built this year. The first one was a Vincent kit from TOTW. The next one is a Tennessee from a bunch of parts my Uncle had laying around. The parts were from the 1970's and include a Douglas barrel, Robbins lock, and I don't know were the wood came from. The Tennessee was much more involved project as you might imagine from the starting photo. I have learned a lot, and am already making plans to build a Dickert rifle with a 44" swamped barrel next winter, or maybe a hawken, I havent made up my mind yet.

Nice job! :)
It looks like you had some fun casting nosecaps too! :)
What stain and finish did you use?

Again, loooookkkkkiiiiinnnng goooooood!

I think that the nose cap on that Vincent was one of the scarriest (sp?) things I had to do. But like all things, once I did it it was not so bad, (it only took two trys). Both the guns are finshed with Tru-Oil, the Tennessee has LMF "Landcaster Maple" stain, and the Vincent has LMF "Maple Stain". I read about a finishing technique using Tru-Oil that worked very well on both guns. It's called "Wiping". Basically you apply the finish and wipe it off leaving only a very thin dead flat finish. The down side to this methode is that it takes upwards of 7-10 coats of finish to get it right. Then I used BC Stock Sheen and Conditioner to knock the shiny off of the stock and give it a hand rubbed look, and finaly a couple of coats of BC stock wax.. I like the looks of this finish technique not to shiny but not flat either, just a nice glow.. :)
