A little while back I rechecked my sight in for the after Christmas flint lock season. Flint was well-worn down but the gun went off every time ; but the frizzen didn't pop fully open. Last week I replaced the flint and got it all proper but the frizzen still pops open to a tad past the flint after testing. Is this something needing attention and if so what do I tweak? Pry the spring out a tad to make it stronger or what? All replies appreciated.

A little oil on the frizzen pivot will also help. I have run into the spring being too strong and the frizen not opening. To weaken the spring a little grinding on the edge of the springs bend will weaken it just don't get it hot to remove the temper, grind, quench in water, test repeat till the spring is just right.

How close is the flint to the frizzen when the lock is in the halfcock position?

Something many miss, is how fast a frizzen rebounds. Place you thumb at the front to the frizzen with it open. Cock the gun, and cycle the lock by pulling he trigger. You will most likely find that the frizzen is contacting your thumb before rebounding. It just happens so fast, you don't see it.

Update , Sorry for the delay but got it fixed. Removed the frizzen screw and found it not to be completely tight and had a little crud/rust on the screw , so I cleaned both screw and frizzen hole and lubed. Also found spring screw needed a tad more tightened. Don't know if it was one or a combo to cause the problem , but it works great now. Thanks for any and all help!
