Sounds great bud . Long Island to Vermont ! Wow ! There's a big change in culture ! I hope you enjoy it up there bud ....and hope you find some like minded folks to shoot with . Hope my buddy from N.H . can help ya out . I just got done stackin wood . I'll need 4 1/2 to 5 cord and I'm good , I bet you need a whole lot more than that up in Vermont ! Good ta have ya here bud . Take care :)
I’m still back and forth between Long Island and NH and yes 4 cords as a minimum but I do cheat but not much. I have wood everywhere 😂 basement, garage and of course off the kitchen for easy access. I have to stack some closer today. Goes pretty quick once you get into the swing. The wood goes quicker when winter settles in. Though I really enjoy the warmth of the stove. The loft was converted to a full apartment. Was planning on renting it as a BNB to offset the costs. Adding that zone hydronic heating drove me to replace a perfectly fine oil fired heating system. The existing system was a four section cast iron boiler to a Buderus 5 section. The four section boiler just couldn’t hack it. It would never recover. The 5 section does the job with room to spare and is very efficient. The biggest PIA with it is you need to add anti freeze to the system every other year it seems. New England is costly you don’t realize how costly until you live here. The Jotul stove does most of the work. The house surprisingly holds the heat pretty well and generally just use the heating system to either take the chill out and in winter balance the cold spots. I’m still up in the air as to whether we’re going to make it permanent the politics in this state seem to be going in the wrong direction IMO. I would certainly miss the being able to shoot on my property but that’s not everything. We’ll see I’ll probably give it another year. Cheers!

Layout lines with Herschel House depth gauge and slab off extra wood at bottom .... Expose area to be gouged out for ramrod groove....much like laying out for your barrel ,find your center in relationship to your barrels center and mark it ....thats where your ramrod groove needs to go ...I use 3/16" web and 3/8" ramrod hole ....

Chisel out your ramrod groove , my gouge is a little under size so works well , watch yer depth . Clean it up with dowel rod in course sand paper , dowel under 3/8" dia. Take hole up to forearm ....make sure it isn't high there , dont want that ....clean it up , straight as possible and depth same as possible but it doesnt have to be perfect

At the start of forearm , check your depth, you do not want the RR channel going high here ! It'll drill the bit up .... Start drilling and go slow and not very deep , the slower and more shallow you go the better ...I'll make holes on top , in barrel channel , to check depth shortly .. ..5/64" holes ....

Ok ....got ahead of myself ....breech plug first .... Put breech plug back on barrel , make sure T.H. is marked first ,bend tang to contour of wrist ,measure width and length of bolster then inlet it first, just chisel straight down , it tapered on itsown , keep inside your lines , chisel down till bottom is level with barrel bed bottom ...youll be removing little square pieces like this .....WALT53 youll be doing this soon

File your breech plug to a taper , the bolster, pointing at with pencil , sides and end of tang .... Put bolster in bolster groove you just started . Always look strait down at breech and chisel on the side , inside bolster groove you just made , the barrel need to go , L . or R. Sometimes , like this one , its tough and can't tell . Look along barrel too , always looking straight down , looking for gap, then making barrel go that way .... Sometimes you can't tell which way needs to go , looks same , so take a little off each side then do it again .....

Ok ...gettin black from the curve on the plug bolster ... The tang is not down yet so , be careful ....just put your chisel along side and roll it it up just slightly , both sides tap , then take away black spot but no more ... Very little taken off ... Until that tang gets down on the wood and you can trace it you gotta be careful that you dont take out wood that will make a gap at tang , a bad spot to have a gap cause it is so easily been there ....looks bad ... then , next pic, the black is gone but no more ! No extra ! Tap breech slightly when bedding now, and back at muzzle ....the breech will slide forward because of curve , whole barrel will ....leaves marks and we'll remove all that as it comes .....I'm seeing an obvious gap on S.P. side now

So close but ...no , do not trace the tang . When I tap down at the breech the whole barrel still moves forward , just slightly but thats how you get gap at breech ....keep doing same , taking off black at curve until tang is down flat and barrel doesnt move forward THEN you can trace tang and start inletting , bedding it down ....close

Its good to be gettin color under tang , means its going down btnow barrel is moving forward again , this is from the tang end , its tapered so pushes barrel forward like bolster curve did so , keep taking black off under tang and at tang end ....interesting note....this is just one way one can identity an amateur build . If the darn bolster doesnt make a gap at breech then the d@mn tang end might... One of those things ya learn ....the hard way .....keep on kerpin on .... Pic with pencil ...I leave notes ,notice my line and X ....means " stay away ...I made a gap there , dont touch anymore " ...it happens :)

The barre went down , did not move forward when breech tapped down , no gap at breech , , AND when barrel was removed inlet black I put on breech and barrel end are marking the bottom of the channel ! Tang is down and barrel back to bedded!! WEEW DAWGY !!! Done !! :)

Rob you should make a photo pictorial of your build information. Of the thirty to forty years I've been building guns. YOUR advice and photography makes more sense than any I have EVER seen. Going to put your help right up beside Herschel. Maybe a little ahead.... Seriously you have helped a lot of people. Not only how to do stuff. But what to do if we screw up.....PRICELESS......
