Where do you get a barrel with a bore large enough to stuff a canoe down?
:hmm:

From the year 1790 - documentation at last!

Kamehameha gathered 3,000 warriors, loaded a brass cannon (nicknamed "Lopaka") between the twin hulls of a 60-foot war canoe, and set off for Hana, on the extreme east of Maui. This time Kamehameha felt confident, even though he had only 12 muskets, along with six iron cannonballs to load into Lopaka.

Who cares about a canoe gun, I am going to have to get one of them canoe diaper things if I really want to canoe in style. Chris

guess i'm done with this topic.

Why do you need to ask anybody Bro. Just go get yourself a gun the way you want it.
The only time one should need another mans permission is when he's looking to be accepted in a Gang . Screw that.
Twice.

Despite the controversy surrounding short-barreled flintlock smoothbores, I would also like to see photos and hear of experiences with these interesting firearms. I suspect the human urge to shorten barrels goes way back in time ...

Ken, I'd like to hear more about your canoe gun. What gauge and barrel length are you getting? Also, is it a Northwest gun style?

If you want to be done with this topic, I don't blame you. However, I would be curious to know what gauge you chose, and what barrel length for your "canoe gun". Do you have prior experience hunting game from a canoe? If so, what have you taken?

I have read stories of Canadian hunters intercepting moose swimming rivers or lakes, and shooting them in the head or neck with guns, so that they could rope the animal and take it closer to shore for butchering, but there is rarely any details given about what guns they use for this purpose. In some states, its legal to use a non-motorized canoe or boat to float down stream to hunt squirrels and other small game, as long as ONLY a shotgun is used, and as long as you have permission from the land owners to hunt on their lands. In some states, you have to have permission to even float the canoe over the land, as the land owners own the land UNDER the river, or stream, too.

Curly Gustomski of the original NorthWest Trade Guns is credited with making the first " Canoe Gun" by many. I know I saw him showing a very short barreled trade gun of his own manufacturer around the primitive range at Friendship back in the late 1970s-early 1980s. By short, I believe the barrel was only 24 inches( 2 feet)long. I don't recall the gauge.

I must not be human... :shocked2:
Mike: Maybe it mostly applies to military surplus. But I sure do see a lot of sawed-off shotguns, lever guns, bolt guns and yes even muzzleloaders at a lot of the shows in my neck of the woods. Ask me about my bobbed Vetterli ...

ok when i get the gun i will start a new topic as this one is muddy.
i have NEVER felt the nead to be accepted or join a gang, that auctually makes me laugh! i had started this post ONLY becouse i wanted to see a few pic's of othes "canoe guns" while mine is being built, to wet the whistle ya know.
Greg is building me a Virgins atyle fowler with a 24 inch barrel, believe i want to try a Colerain this time. large Siler lock ans maple stock. i want this gun to just have fun and burn some powder. will also hunt with it and YES i know the limitations of a short barreld smoothbore!

Ken: Please do post photos when you get her! Thanks for having a little bit of a sense of humor about this. We all tend to get our panties in a knot over different things here, and "canoe guns" are chronic panty-knotters!
