Usually I’m the one making dumb statements or asking dumb questions. I just don’t realize it until much later, after I’m sure others have had a good laugh at my expense

Dumb statements abound. There are no dumb questions. It may be that you were dumb for not paying attention. But having correct information is critical in most things.

Yeah, I caught that comment right away first time I saw it. If anything, the silk would dissolve immediately and the ball would be patchless out the bore!

I read all of these and I get chills. Our range office places a small square frame on the ground at the firing line. Now this is for caping before you load he would say. Well one shoot he was capping his TC and capped it in the square. BOOM it discharged WHAT THAT WAS LOADED. He visible shook. Yep we told him it is good to cap before you load ...snicker.

I work in a gun store. Once in a while a guy will ask my recommendation on how much smokeless powder can they use in a muzzleloader. I always tell them none. I have been scoffed at for that answer. One fellow told me he had done it multiple times. I told him to keep his personal affairs in order. ----- Another guy purchased a 50 caliber, percussion, Thompson Center, Pennsylvania Match rifle from us. (The gun was mine that I had placed on consignment.) After a week he brought it back and complained that he could not get it to fire. The store owner refunded his money and told me about it the next time I came to work. I examined the gun and found nothing wrong with it. When I got a chance to talk to the customer, I learned that he had been properly loading the gun, but he had never placed a percussion cap on the nipple. After every failed attempt to fire he had properly pulled the ball, cleaned and reloaded the gun, only to have it "fail" again. I resold the gun to a better knowledgeable customer.

Here's mine:
In the early 70's I was a member of a BP club that rented land for our range. The range was a nice field with a huge berm 100 yards away from the shooting line. The club put up target boards in front of the berm and everything was great for a starting club. We shot there for a year or so having good interaction with the land owner. Protocol for that range was to check behind the berm before every shooting match. One day we went down range to check behind the berm and OH MY did we ever have a surprise. The owner place a horse tank and 1 horse or more (don't remember critter count) on the back side of the berm for his granddaughter to use. We contacted the owner and told him of our concern.....Here comes the DUMB: He said "Oh, not to worry you guys are just shootin muzzleloaders"! Unfortunately we lost the arguement with him and told him adios.
Anyone out there can challenge me to the idiot award. No names or references as to who the idiot is please!

Alabama once restricted small game M/L hunting to .40 caliber and less. When I questioned a bunch of conservation officers about this they said " if someone is small game hunting with a deer caliber M/L and jumps a deer they will probably try to kill the deer out of season". I had killed a pile of squirrels with a loaded down .50 and quit small game hunting when the law passed, all I owned at the time was a TC Renegade.

I told them that if someone was going to take an illegal shot at a deer it would be with whatever they had in their hands from a 22 to a 12 ga with bird shot.

They have since changed the law to include any caliber M/L for small game. Deep down I suspect this is to allow hunters that happen up on wild hogs to kill as many as they can. Hogs have taken over some areas.

I would have told him,”well maybe you would taken that deer out of season but I never would! I’m not like that and respect the law.

As you can rell from my avatar I love cannons/mortars(can not have enough I have added 2 more to the collection)< and I get asked do we go deer hunting with them. First off my smallest one is 1.25 inch bore and fires a 6 once lead ball takes 1.5 oz powder to fire, the worst thing is that some people think you have to hold it.

Showed my Uncle my Zoli .58 Remington. He just dismissed it because of all the "junk" you had to have to even shoot it. Finally convinced him to come shooting with me. I loaded and let him shoot. After the second shot he wanted to load as well as shoot. When we got home he decided on what to get for his first ML rifle. When he passed, I sold off the bulk of his BP collection (I kept two) which was thirty two guns of many calibers and styles.
Too much "junk" to shoot it? Yeah, right.
