Lead poisoning isn't a fabrication, and you don't have to intentionally "eat" the paint to get poisoning. The biggest risk is to kids because it inhibits brain development. A kid that ingests the equivalent of a pinky-fingernail sized chip (maybe they get paint dust on their hands a few times and don't wash before eating a sandwich?) will have enough lead in their blood to show a significant loss of IQ. A good friend of mine and his wife remodeled an 1870's house with their young daughter around, and didn't know enough to take the lead paint seriously at the time. A little while later their daughter was having behavioral issues. Their doctor ran a blood test, finding that her lead levels were sky high. She's been on psychoactive meds ever since, and is still a little "off".
I guess you did not read my post about my uncle the plumber and the post of the army guy handled lead all his life is now 80 years old. I framed houses did concrete and roofing for 50 years tore apart countless old houses not even wearing a face mask. I am still here. some people smoke and die of lung cancer at 35. I know a lot of guys smoked until 80 years old. some people are doomed from a young age no matter what they do. I am not saying lead is good for you but it has been blown way out of proportion

Yes, but look what it's done to you! An obsession with hopelessly outdated firearms is a sure sign of mental illness! ;)
There are definitely exceptions for every rule, and there are other variables that may affect lead absorption for people with the same exposure levels (Drinking milk or calcium-rich hard well water, for instance, can chelate the lead and prevent your body from absorbing it)... but I think it's good not to "play the lottery" on this one, having known people who played it and "won".

I've worked with the mining industry for 35 years and have seen the impacts of lead exposure on entire communities in lead mining regions of the USA, India, Brazil and China. When Poland opened up after the fall of the Soviet Union, the effects of lead air pollution from local industries could be studied. Eighty percent of the children had high blood levels of lead, lead-induced asthma and reduced mental capacity. Lead, like cadmium and mercury, is a very toxic material. The determination of the health impacts of these metals does not come from EPA, but from a vast medical literature.
What does make a difference in the toxic nature of substances like lead is the form of the exposure. A lead ball or bullet sitting in the soil is not toxic. If the soil is acidic, then the lead can dissolve and become toxic. If you breathe in lead dust, lead poisoning is likely. Lead breathing and ingestion leads to brain damage, cardiovascular, liver and kidney disease.
Not only does medical science know about the effects of lead on the human body, but the physiological processes that cause the damage are fully understood.
Children are more sensitive to the toxic effects of lead than adults. Want to stifle brain development in children? Expose them to lead.

I cannot believe this has evolved into a discussion of lead, and its effects. Ok, I guess I can based on how most threads evolve. Want to know the effects of lead? Ask the Roman empire. Seems with a few thousand years of knowledge, some still are learning.

Well that sums it up. One needs to practice common sense. That's why we have so many rules and regulations today. People need to be protected from themselves! However getting back to BP substitutes, if cyanide is present one needs to apply common sense and if they don't, don't point the finger of blame at others.

Honestly when reading all those posts I really be afraid: the cleanings stuff are not healthy, oils are not healthy, powders and substitutes are not healthy, lead is also not not healthy, shooting in the rain is not not healthy (a bad cold comes quickly), the Pyrodex and the cyanide is not healthy etc, etc, etc....
In fact nothing is healthy when shooting and it's much worse with moderns weapons and powders "without smoke"... :(
What about fishing... ? Also not healthy just because the waters contains so much things not healthy...

Tomorrow I'll sell all my rifles and pistols et stay the whole day TV watching...

A good end of day to all the people here. ;)

Erwan.

Do not know fellas the way things are going in the U.S. we may be lucky if we can use a sling shot. Seems to me Erwan has seen the socialist side of Government, Be aware very aware. And as to traditional weapons it will be a matter of time until our government figures a way to regulate those also. A subjected population with no means to defend it self is at the mercy of those whom will destroy them.

Absolutely true. Look how being disarmed worked out for the Jews in Berlin...

and here I was.....thinking I was likely the only one here ever exposed to the "brown death cloud". ( phosphene/phosgene)
we used to leach iron rich metals in site mixed Hf....and our scrubbers sometimes failed......more than once the alarm went off, the cloud was issuing from the acid reactor, and we had to evacuate.

Smoking, drinking, lead, impure water, all bad. We must always remember though; we'll never get out of this world alive regardless of caution.

Please keep politics out of discussions in the general area of the forum. It is against the forum rules.
Well, you know, Zonie, I did't talk about politic, the meaning of the post was only that : " If we are afraid of all the produces multi purpose used when shooting or firing Subs. we better have to stay the whole day watching the TV"...

That's all and no more... :(
