Hi my question is I have a 1777 model an ix smooth bore and I would like to use it for historical reenactment and practice shooting however my freind has the same gun and his ramrod keeps getting stuck inside the holding slot someone said it might be rust or wood swelling but my musket is starting to stick and there is no rust on my ramrod or gun never or less I’m trying to keep my ramrod from being stuck is there anyone with ideas that can help me so I don’t get the ramrod stuck in the holding slot

Dear Mr Boneaparte I fought you at Waterloo in 1995 but don't take it personally its just my Regiment where sent there & we had to do something ! . Re your rod French muskets have a good reputation there augth to be a retaining spring but you could wax or grease the rod or make up a long bit drill or simply take a smaller length of steel rod bray the end to made a burr which will serve as a scraper but you then need a bit of thinner wire to loosen up the shaveings lest they fill up the bottom & the rod will protrude A heated red rod might help but could be over kill .I think you will get a bit of ribbing about the name but someone has to play Bone'y ' Bon chance' with that.. Where from ?

How interesting Just don't go invading Spain, Italy, Austria Portugal or any other tasty looking real estate And forget Russia ' Two Napolions cant match their Generals January & February .& Wellington .He learnt his trade in India " Wellington Wellington why must it always be Wellington ?" I think its that stinking metric rubbish Boney pushed . Boney had to go( I bet you where born in pounds & ounces .) I am being levitus but not meaning to affront you any . The only place I did Napolionic in the US was Missasinawa and just Waterloo in Belgium a Regiment of three. An Ex Gordons Piper 'Stumpy',' Benton Jennings' for Colonel & Me sole OR of the 92d of foot I camped with the 95th & KGL nr the real L'haysant however its spelt I dolled up on the Wednesday & only got' Porky 'on the Monday (Porky meaning modern attire )
Welcome.
Regards Rudyard
