Hoppes Black Powder Solvent

Without kicking off another cleaning thread, has anyone used this product specifically and how was it? I bought some but have not tried it yet.

You’ll like it and it will clean or patch lube for you. There are cheaper cleaning and better lubes, but there is nothing wrong with this product

I use it at the range and TOW Mink Oil while hunting. Really good stuff. Make the patch damp with it and it keeps fouling down in the small calibers which is about all that I shoot. I do a quick clean with it followed by a couple of dry patches before I leave the range to remove most of the fouling.

I use it at the range after I finish shooting and before I head home. I clean with soap and water at home but it probably isn't really necessary. Then, WD -40 on a patch, dry patches followed by Barricade.

I've used it to clean my Hawken and as a patch lube. It works good.

Its good stuff RR. I have a couple bottles of it downstairs. I used it all the time before trying some Mr Flintlocks lube. I really cant tell much difference between the two only that Mr Flintlocks is a little thinner than the Hoppes. But when I was using the Hoppes I can shoot a bunch of rounds before cleaning.

I got a bottle on a prize table about 5 years ago. As a cleaner I was not impressed, but as a lube it worked great. I put it in a small spray bottle and would give a spritz to one side of the patch. Just ran out about 3 months ago.

While I never tried it as a cleaner (no need to where H2O works soooooo well, LOL ... ) I will say that as a "Non-cold weather" patch lube, i.e., where temps are below freezing, I too find it to be a SUPERIOR patch lube! One can load and shoot all day long and it doesn't spread the groups if too much or too little is applied! Not all lubes can live up to that claim.

And not only that, the 1st shot after any in-session swabbing or cleaning stays within the established grouping! No 'fouling shot' needed ...

Which Hoppes Black powder solvent are we talking about? The old brown colored one, or the new milky water based one?

It cannot be beat as a lube for range work, zero swabbing. As a cleaner it works fine but is messy compared to water. Use it alot for range. Hunting I use mink oil. LOVE the smell too, brings back memories of when I got into this habit

I've used Hoppes lube and Hoppes bore cleaner for a long, long time. Thanks to Bassdog1 I have enough to keep me shooting for a good while. I also use Hoppes at the range and TOW mink oil in the woods (when I hunted). I will use Mink oil on occasion at the range but I'm about out now. Hoppes BP Lube is sensational IMO. I use what little I have left of DGW "black solve" to swab the bore before returning home; I clean with tap water, dry with denatured alcohol and WD40 and protect with Barricade.

I liked Hoppes Lube so much I bought it by the bottle and even bought this gallon drum of it many years ago.

Let me know where you threw it . I'll go get it. One of the better patch lubes and cleaning solvents. They changed bottles and formulas recently. For a short while they were selling what looked like TC 13 but have returned to a formula like the original but seems to be thinner. Have shot with it for some time and find it just as good. The formula that looks like TC13 I use for cleaning. Had 12 bottles now down to six. Called them up and bitched that you can't seem to be able to buy a larger container. Hoppes doesn't make it but has it made for them.
