Claude,

Sadly, there are a few juveniles who cannot simply applaud another member's happiness or appreciate the highest quality workmanship without pumping something else or tearing down what is being shown.

It is sad that this has bled over onto multiple thread and is impeding more positive discourse.

Let this die out and go away people!

If not, I think that we should remember who has given much to us and who has torn up much.

So, how bout them Astros? Come on guys, lets all go back to being friendly and just forget all this manure. I come here to have a good time with friends, share and learn from others, not to listen to arguing. I can get enough of that from the Granddaughter.

if you start off a topic with i have a itialian gun the first response will be that is probabley the problem you get what you pay for , this is the sort of thing that need to stop if someone has a itilian gun they should be able to talk about it with out fear of someone slamming them because it not a custom .

I have seen a lot of that too. I don't think a seperate forum would end it. The only thing that will end it is if people give a little thought as to how such comments might be received by the person with the gun. It's called respect.

Most people here are respectful. It's just a few that aren't.

Believe you me, a thousand dollars for a nice, hand built rifle is CHEAP. Some of you people have absolutely NO IDEA what actually goes into building a gun. You have NO IDEA just how much work it is and how long it takes. You have NO IDEA just how much money many gunmakers actually LOSE (by not charging a true hourly rate on every bit of work done) on every gun they (I) sell.

heck i got 900.00 + in parts fer my lancaster and i still have to replace the buttplate with a smaller one and get the pipes fer it yet....

rice 42" d profile .54 swamped barrel
chambers large deluxe flintlock
davis d-set d-triggers
pecatonica river gr 4 maple stock

sure i bought the best i wanted....and the work i done on it already i'm sure to lose money on it if i sold it fer 1,200.00 easy....so i'm sure ya guys that do it as a business aren't rich by any standards :hatsoff: ...........bob

Claude,

Did I miss something? I thought that you locked this thread..

Perplexed in the sty...

'Tain't locked. We're hopin to let it burn enough that there's no fuel left for a flare up farther along.

You can come over to Muzzleloader Hunting or Accoutrements and what you spent on a rifle or item is never brought up. Besides, gentlemen don't tell. :winking:

I get my raw materials for making powder measures out of the bone pile after Thanksgiving. My vent picks I make from sections of wire cut off coat hangers. Show me a cheaper . . . er, I mean more parsimonious approach than that.

I've never belittled any muzzleloader. I own and enjoy three that are off the shelf (My New Englander is a $180 kit I cobbled together and later added a rifle barrel to the set). It's a fine hunting rifle and a fun upland game shotgun and I enjoy it very much.

You're always going to get the posts from those who will pointout why a particular gun is not "what it should be" in terms of historical accuracy or period correctness. Shrug them off if you don't care about following that path of muzzleloading. But, as previously pointed out, you may be saved a "wrong" investment if you were expecting a particular model to be something it is not. Even $400 is expensive if it is wasted. T/C would have you believe their Hawken fell of the brother's rack in St. Louis in 1815 to read some of their advertisements. 'Tain't so.

I own one nice flintlock rifle. It took me a long time to get to where I could justify it and I'm proud of it. My favorite centerfire rifle cost me a whopping $79 plus $20 to the FAL owner who ordered it for me.

The happy man is one who likes what he has. Not the one who can buy all he wants. You have to permit someone to make you unhappy. That's an internal thing.
