I bought the first kit that I ever built in 1975 or there about. It, too, was a T/C Hawken. It has a serial number of K37888. So, if a few more folks who have T/C Hawken kits will send the date of manufacture of their kits along with the serial number, you may be able to narrow down the age of your gun. But, like Rifleman1776 said, the records have been lost.

T/C may have called that screw a cleanout screw, but take that description with a lot of leeway. The screw is very soft and you can ruin the slot very easily. You are really better off to forget about removing it for cleaning.

My T/C Hawken is also a kit. I bought it new in 1976. The serial number is K121xxx.

I found the sales slip for my T/C kit and it was dated June 17, 1974. So, my first estimate of when I bought the rifle was off a bit. Oh well, it was my best guess without having first checked my sales slip.

I have seen 25th anniversary(1995 manufacture) in the 500,000 range. the T/C Hawken came out in 1970 so, usin' that as a guide, yer gun was made somewhere between 1970 & 1995 and that's about as close as yer gonna get. average the numbers and it's likely a mid to late 70's to early 80's gun.

and as others have said, it's all just guesstimation at this point 'cause nobody knows.

Can't tell you a date for certain but do know TC installed color case-hardened trigger guards on their Hawken prior to 1972, so there's one way to I.D. Sorry I can't give you more.

My brother hand one that had a cheekpiece on it. I''m assuming it wasn't a stock replacement, but I might be wrong. This was probably 30 years ago.

I've long ago rebarreled my TC Hawken to .54 but it has a check piece and brass trigger guard.
I bought it new in the early 70's, originally it was .50 cal until I ringed the barrel with a maxi bullet that slid down bore on me while hunting.
The replacement barrel was one of the last of Douglas's xx match barrels in .54 cal.
It has been a very accurate rifle with the Douglas barrel.

It was, why not type it out so all know.

Nope, not all know what some abreviations are.

I was born in Missouri, now live in Texas.

FYI*, OCD is a very common and well-known acronym. Typing out the full name would be akin to talking down to the average reader, or pointing out the obvious to anyone with normal current social awareness :rotf:
