How Do You Heat Your Workshop

For those of us who live in the frozen north how do you heat your shop. I got an electric heater but it doesn't do a very good job now that temps are in the 30s. Has to run for 1-1 1/2 hours till the shop is comfortable. How about you?

I have natural gas running past my home here in the country. So I have a vented space heater. The 24x30 workshop is well insulated and the pilot light will keep it at 40º.

High efficiency wood stove with a blower. My shop is probably 20 X 24 and can be difficult to keep warm if the wind is from the east as I haven't insulated that wall yet. I burn about 4 truck loads of wood a year.

I have a 16x20 an I heat it with a vangaurd 3 brick gas heater. It does a pretty good job :thumbsup:

Yup getting a little chilly up here in the north country. I have a 12x16 "shed" that was going to be the gun building shop. I wanted to insulate it this year, but $$$ didn't allow it. So about 2 weeks ago I moved the project into my fly tying room in the basement of the house. Did I mention I have a great girlfriend? :grin: Any how I hope by sometime next summer I can insulate it and put a space heater in it. Than the only problem would be putting on my snowshoes to walk the 40 yards to get to it. :wink:

I am just finishing my garage 28x38 its got R19 in all the walls and R30 overhead. I have a wall mounted natural gas 30,000BTU's i think. It's been in the mid 20's at night and middle 50's here and with the heater set on 2 out of 5 it will stay 62 to 64 degrees.

Alright fosters, now this is getting scary. My "shed" is 12x12 and also didn't get insulated because $$$ didn't allow for it. I however don't have a basement so I'll be upgrading my BTU's to keep building :haha:

Eventually I'd like to get a gas heater for my double car garage/shop. From what I can tell, it will need a 45,000 BTU heater. Anyone have a brand they like?

My walls and ceiling are insulated. The garage double door isn't yet. I might need to get me some foam board to stick on the garage door.

My shop is in the basement. I love my wife!! She lets me do just about anything.

Just finished my shop last summer. It is a 18x24 corner of the tractor shed. I put in electric radiant heaters and am very happy with it.

I have a 14x14 VERY well insulated shed. I use both a small kerosene heater and a large electric heater..either or or IF it's cold enough..BOTH!..I LIKE my workshop WARM!

I have a 14X28 shop, well insulated, and use an 18K btu combination air conditioner/heater, works really well summer or winter.

I have an 8X16 shop in the front of a 48' tractor trailer, it was a refer unit so has some insulation, I put a roof on it and insulated that.

I use something similar to this , I piped a gas line inside to the heater so that my source of fuel is outside.

Takes about an hour to bring it up to working temp (60*). Works for me.

You might consider the maximum space you need to work in and frame in a smaller suitable space, save on your fuel costs as you only heat the space you use.

I wish. I have to push the boat and vehicle out so I can roll my table saw out to work. It's a choreographed sequence to work in the garage. :idunno:
