I have noticed that when shooting from a nice bench, both cap and flint, a lot of shooters lay all their fixins out on the bench. Whether I am at the bench, or in my driveway, or at the farm, I shoot from my bag. So, what is it for you, bag or spread it all out?

I load from the pouch. Even when a bench or table is available I step back from the line and load from the pouch. Also if bench resting. (Think about a horn or flask laying on the vent side of a rested flinter)

When at my club where we have solid concrete benches mounted on 6" diameter steel pipes, I spread out on the bench with the gun leaning against the bench protected by a piece of carpet on the ground and draped over the bench. These benches are ambidextrous in that they are square with a cutout in the center with a shooting stool placed there for shooting off the the bench.

I never shoot from the same bench as I'm loading at. Too much junk spread around. :haha:

At matches I used to set up a small table and cover it with junk. It got to be way too much hassle. Now, when shooting a paper match I use my bag, horn, iron portable gun stand and maybe a spotting scope. I can easily change positions on the range to change target distances. For safety reasons you really need a gun stand of some kind to place the rifle in while changing targets, etc.

Trail walks get even easier with just the bag and horn.

I spread all out.... In fact at the range I belong to there is usually enough room to use one "bench" to lay my stuff out on and then I shoot off the one next to it...I feel right cramped when I have to shoot off the same banch that my stuff is on. Oh that dosnt count the open range box on the stool behind me.

If shooting at the range I typically spread some of my junk out at the table but walk 8-10 feet to the right and shoot from there--far away from the junk pile. If out and about, well the bag (you knew that already)

Looks like you and I have similar range habits. :haha: We could load from the "pouch" at the range if we put a big ol strap on an ice chest or foot locker? :)

Exactly!! :hatsoff: :haha:

Our club has loading benches, so I put a shooting box on the bench, and my patch and balls..I load from the horn I wear, and I do wear my bag...I could load from it, but I'm lazy. We do not shoot from a bench except when someone is working up a load. Only in preparation for the Alvin York shoot does anyone shoot any position except offhand...for the York shoot, prone is of course expected. I've been in clubs where shooting from the bench is how its done, and I always feel like I didn't learn or improve from that. Hank

Pouch always. This keeps me in practise and knowin where all my stuff is.

I spread all my cleaning stuff out on the bench, but keep the stuff I'd normally take in the field in my pouch, and load from there.

I just made a handy little item for the bench - it's a piece of wood with a notch in it that I clamp to the bench. I can then stand the rifle in the notch, and not have to worry about it falling. Copied this from someone at the range.

Off a bench while at the Range, and out of the pouch while at a woods walk or hunting. I do both, and like Mike, quite well I may add too :haha:

Me too, standing offhand with pouch and horn. Might lean against a tree if one was available.

I load my rifle from a bench, i lay all my fixins
out in front of me, and they are in line, so i dont make a wrong load, at our club everybody likes to talk when they are loading, so bench for
me. . Boomm.

At the range I put my tackle box on a table behind the firing benches and spread some of it out. I put a rubber mat on the concrete floor and load at that table. After loading I move up to a shooting bench, stool or offhand position. In the field I shoot from a bag.
