I usually camp when deer hunting, specially like to hunt in the cold sos I can hang the deer from a tree. Here in West texas its actually Too warm a lot of the first part of the season (archery season especially) to do anything but field dress a deer and run to the house to process it and get it in the deep freeze.
Been camping in a nylon tent most of my life, sometime like to use a Military poncho and liner with a tarp under my sleeping bag, if I feel like getting a little more intimate with nature, and also tired of all the high teck pole and such of a mountin tent.
This year however, Gotten older, soul is a changing, Having dreams of a Reese or Nomadics Sioux/cheyenne Tipi for hunting camp maybe in december. Figgure to sit in a Tipi, and pretend im some kind of Chief. A legend in my own mind. Think also if I upgrade my camp living conditions I might get the Wife and Daughter to try camping. Wife used to camp with me till we had kids, and Cant get her to budge out into the bush anymore. Think the Tipi and all its room and comforts might help..except now I hear this talk of camping not having showers and restrooms......Whats a chief to do, but go it alone.
Nothin tastes better than backstraps and garlic roasted on a stick or grill over smokey mesquite coals - on a cold night around a campfire. Think looking up at the sky thru the poles of a tipi would really make it better, than sleeping like a hampster in a yellow tent.
People who live up north have a good thing going seasonal environment wise for deer season. Heck, in this texas sahara youve still got deer ticks, fleas, chiggers, and skeeters to contend with here until you get some good frosts happening. Flies will eat your deer before you do if you dont move fast.
