I purchased my first black powder gun in 1969 at a local hardware store at the ripe old age of 19. I actually went in looking to buy an 1860 Army cap & Ball revolver, but they had sold it and weren't sure when they would get any back in. I ended up walking out with a Pedersoli Kentucky pistol in percussion. I remember using Crisco for patches and I would shoot at ground squirrels on Grandpa's ranch with it. So that would be 55-years.

Funny thing is that when I bought my first flintlock longrifle in about 2003, I was very bummed because I couldn't get it to fire. I had purchased an unmentionable BP rifle in 1999, not long after I moved to Vermont and had some Pyrodex on hand, but just couldn't get it to work with my flintlock. I remembered using real Black Powder with my Kentucky Pistol, so I checked in with my shooting stuff to see if I had any BP in there. Lo and behold, I found a quart Mason jar about 1/2 full of black powder in with my shooting gear! I loaded that in my flintlock and primed the pan with it and it worked great. After about 30-years of storage the black powder that I had bought back in 1969 still worked just fine. After a frustrating time trying to find BP locally and deciding I would have to order it, I found out a powder supplier for the local slate quarries had it for sale just 6 miles away from home. So I had a good supply of it as long as I lived in Vermont.

I have been muzzling for 46 years. Started with a flint lock, percussion caps, up to inline and 209’s. I remember hunting in the rain with a sandwich bag around my flint so it would not get wet. Getting old. I luv it now more than ever. Good luck

Let's say 18 years total, 2 years sitting and looking, wondering...

LOL I love these bragging rights / p!$$!ng contest threads. I bought a TC Hawken flinter when I got out of college, around '82 or so, which means 42 years thereabouts.
