With my Great Plains I found I really liked the TC flints. The real nice thing is once you wear out one side you flip it around and you are ready for another 50 shots. May I offer some advise--When you put the flint in the first time, bring your hammer back to full cock then relase slowly with your thumb in contact---I didnt and the first time I pulled the trigger my flint was slightly off center and hit the side of the barrel---Each time I see that mark :shake:
As for building it yourself---If you dont want it to look traditional then go hog wild---I would. Once you are hooked long enough you will want even a longer gun (custom)! Ask me how I know.
Next ---cleaning is important and a bit different with this gun...Get a 32 cal bore brushand a 54 cal bore brush----Im going to do a post on this--reason being there is a small chamber in the rear of the barrel that doesnt get cleaned by the 54cal brush (54 cal brush is too big to get in) I also like to use cut up Tshirts for cleaning patches... I had close to 100 tshirts last year and had to get rid of some ----Couldnt just toss them so I cut some up and now I like these as cleaning patches--nice and thick to get into the grooves of the barrel. :hatsoff:
