I spoke with a gentleman at Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading today, regarding their Leman 54 cal flintlock. He answered a lot of questions and gave me a lot of good information. I was wondering if anyone here owns one of these rifles, or has had any experience with them? If so, was it a kit gun or built by TVM?

Matt, at TVM, makes a fine gun. He also offers kits aimed at the hobbyist with, at least, some modest skills. These guns are also offered "in-the-white", assembled but not finished. I personally like the Leman style and it's a fine rifle whether you buy one finished or just buy the parts and build it from scratch.

Matt is who I spoke with. If his guns are half as nice as he is to talk to, I need one bad!

I would be looking at the Late English Lock or the Durs Egg Lock. While I would prefer a tapered barrel, I would choose the swamped barrel instead of the straight barrel for improved balance. A double set trigger would be nice but not necessary.

These are considered to be semi-custom guns and can be ordered to meet your needs.

I built one of TVM's Fowler kits. Really nice kits and great folks to work with. You'll need some basic skills and tools but they are straight forward kits that look and perform great when finished.

I own three TVM guns. A .32 Tennessee caplock, .36 Southern Mountain flint and a steel mounted .50 Leman flintlock. The .32 and .36 I ordered. The .50, mint condition, I bought used. I haven't shot the Leman much, I don't really have much use for it. It does group well though.

The small bores are a lot of fun to shoot, especially the flintlock. They're easy on ball and powder too.

They are all good guns.

I’ve looked at those Lemans at TVM, for many years. I’ve yet to pull the trigger on one.

I can say that, after owning 4 of their fine products, their firearms are well made, accurate and beautifully crafted.

Shoot me a PMif you’re interested in divesting yourself of the .50 that you don’t have much use for. 😊
