Is this sight on backwards?

Well, you ain't the first one that has seen them placed in the opposite direction, thus the confusion.

I'd have to take a look in the safe but I'm pretty sure I have a rifle with the rear sight on the same as what you have.

Following the same ass-u-me-ption, I installed it backwards on my first build, a .32 pistol.20(?) years ago... I was so proud! Posted pics on Trad-Rag and was politely corrected.

So why put the notch on it at all? Not arguing with you, just makes no sense to me.I could about swear I’ve seen them the other way around.

We've all seen them both ways, that doesn't make it right both ways! The sight as pictured in the original post is correct, the flat side goes toward the eye.
