With all due respect, the litigious ninnys aren’t on the board, they’re the ones the board has to CYA about. Gone are the days of “I hurt myself at your event, will you please cover my ER visit?”; it’s now “I stumped my toe. I may never walk the same again. You need to pay me pain, suffering, damages, plus fees from my lawyers; Dewey, Screwem, and Howe.” I speak from expirence. The Volunteer FD I was on used to have an annual festival which included a kiddie pedal tractor pull. Hired an outfit that brought all the equipment. Department a few counties used them, as well. One year at the other department, some kid got their toe ran over by the PEDAL TOY TRACTOR. Parents claimed several thousands in damages. Threatened litigation against FD, vendor, and individual board members. Settlement was reached. Vendor sold equipment and retired. Have you ever been there and/or attended any of their meetings? I have been watching this organization self destruct since 1980. I'm honestly surprised it's still even around. Lots of political climbers on a power trip.Does anyone really think the current board, past board members want to change from what it was in the past? Bet not. The board also does not want to be the one that signs over the title to the property to someone else either. They are trying to protect what the NMLRA has today and improve it. Did they want to accept the pittman robinson act monies with the attached strings? Bet not but probably only option to make the place better for many. We all want to go back to a simpler life, dinner for the family around the table at 6pm after dad gets home from work and then sit on the front porch and watch the sun go down. Well, not many places like that anymore. Life changes and we have to accept it reluctantly.
Last 15 years except for covid. Started a charter club 3.5 years ago. Www.trbps.com 50% growth of membership year over year for three straight years now. Member of hoa with over 4500 homes in it currently so well aware of what volunteers do. 18 years scouts, basketball coach, band parent supporter all as a volunteer. Current member of the board of directors of a local modern gun range with 450 members that hate BP and want to eliminate it being shot on the complex ranges. Currently shoot with several fellas that started going to friendship in 1978 and still do to this day. Your resume?Have you ever been there and/or attended any of their meetings?
No, I don’t. So, you’ve stated that the board is made up of the litigious ones; who are they constantly suing? Truly curious of this.Do you actually know anyone down there?
Just curious as to why some of those members hate BP?Last 15 years except for covid. Started a charter club 3.5 years ago. Probsbly should add one of my brothers father in law was on the board in the 70's, ran primitive side matches, gun builder, has trophies to prove it. So I hear stories from my sister in law all the time and her son who has started into BP in his grandpa's footsteps.
Lawyers and insurance companies don't file claims against themselves.Guys, the issues with insurance companies is quite real. We've had our fun with them in the N-SSA. To get coverage, regulations are getting tighter and often to those of us with long experience, somewhat onerous. But this is the legal climate we live in. For example, CCI used to make the very best musket caps, hands down. Then an idiot reenactor with a drilled out nipple and too much powder got a cap fragment in the eye and sued CCI. Presto, no more good caps. CCI reduced the power in the musket caps to the point to where they're only suitable for blanks.
So while we moan and complain, the changes are often driven by lawyers and insurance carriers who don't care about your stinky old guns. Those same lawyers and insurance companies are often 2A hostile.
Shop for another insurance carrier? That would be great except for the fact that you can count the number of national carriers on one hand, missing a couple fingers, who will insure active shooting range activities. Couple that with commercial liability and the number grows smaller. This is a symptom of a greater problem.
I belong to two clubs.Just curious as to why some of those members hate BP?
How hurt can one get walking through a display tent?I can't remember how many times I hit my head on the swing up doors at the red barns. If they are that worried about people suing, then they should fix things like that. I have a hard head and had a hat on, so it really didn't hurt. But, someone else might "get hurt" and want some money.
Seems like a lot of people can't mind their own business and let others enjoy their time. I see nothing wrong with muzzleloading or shooting them at a range. They are a lot less noisy than center-fire rifles. Why so these people that say they are underpowered even care? I don't understand why some people go out of their way and lose sleep over something that doesn't affect them.I belong to two clubs.
One I have been a member of for 20ish years. There are roughly 230 members, of which about 70 some are active serious shooters. Outside of 3 others who only own an inline for hunting, I am the only member who owns and shoots BP. The ENTIRE membership, even the 3 who own an inline, think BP is DUMB/IDIOTIC, underpowered, archaic, too noisy, too smoky, dangerous, a liability, fire hazard, etc, etc. They all HATE BP shooting. I've endured smart remarks, put downs, and just general dumb remarks from these clowns.
The other club I joined about a year ago. I'm so thankful they voted me in as a member. They are a longrifle club. Funny thing is, they don't discriminate against the modern weapons. They are mature and intelligent enough to appreciate both even though the main focus there is muzzleloaders.
edit- I'm not @jdw276 but I understand what he has to deal with.
Not a display tent. The wood swing up door at the red barns. I said nothing about a tent. How hurt can one get walking through a display tent?
How irreparably harmed?
Excuse me, tent display owner, one of your musket balls rolled off a table and hit my kids foot. I fear long term emotional damage. May I see your insurance policy please.
See my reply above. Not tents. I easily can split my head open on the overhangs. They are simply a red painted 4x8 sheet of plywood held up by a chain and hook system. They are about 5'9-10" off the ground depending on the gravel dips. I am 6'2", they hit me at eye level. All of em. . Some are held up by tent poles. Imagine kicking a tent pole and having a 4x8 sheet of plywood swing down and hit you or your child. Sorry? How hurt can one get walking through a display tent?

Excuse me, tent display owner, one of your musket balls rolled off a table and hit my kids foot. Even though he was wearing heavy leather boots, I still fear long term emotional damage. May I see your insurance policy please.
I saw beds, camp stoves, griddles in some of the sheds. Some of the bigger issues I believe are folks sleeping and cooking in the sheds. Imagine an accidental fire starting. Hot plates, microwaves etc to save money on hotel rooms. Spend $100 as a vendor rather than $100's a nite. There is no sprinkler system and the electricity is old and wore out as well as overloaded. Get to be with your friends though.
