Browning and Lyman Figured this out long ago. They just called theirs the Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle and Great Plains Rifle. Thompson Center cashed in on the Jerimiah Johnson "Hawken" Rifle Craze, so rightly so theirs was named as such. Smart Move.
I still like the Kibler Buckeye Mountain Special. 🤣
I also like the kibler Buckeye… not too many mountains in Ohio , just hills.

Case in point: T/C’s “Hawken”. 😜
Yes! Still have mine and love it but other doors are opened. Never had a mind toward rendezvous or re enacting. Mostly a hunter and there's too much shared between i and that gun to ever turn away. A whole lot of newbies are going to feel the same way about their Kibler Hawken after they've shared 50 years with it. Get it while you can boys and girls. You will never regret it.

I'm lucky, can still manage the mountains but at a slower pace someday we will all look at Ohio hills and see formidable mountains. 😆

Is it possible to do a "global ignore" for Flintlock Fellow? Sheeze, didn't you say you were "done commenting about it?" Then be DONE. Sick of the negativity.

Here is a suggestion for YOU: If you don't want it....don't buy it. No use trashing the whole idea and person making it. What have YOU done lately. Nevermind. Setting you to Ignore. Life is too short for a such a nag.

Geez… what a goober!

Apparently you’ve overlooked the numerous posts in which I’ve stated I have nothing but respect for Mr. Kibler and wish him all the best.

I appreciate your dedication to monitoring my commentary; I have every right to express my honest opinions, even if they may go against the grain.

And yet you keep on with the negativity. So....standby for Ignore....ready......Execute!
Aw, gee, I’m devastated. Truly. But tell me—are you twelve? If you’re going to ignore someone, just do it quietly. Announcing it is like holding a press conference to say you’re leaving the room.

Me, I am changing my mind. If 8.5lbs in .58 is the expected weight, I won't want a heavier rifle 'cause i got no use for a .58. Overkill in the extreme in the east. Plus I already have a Hawken replica .54 at 10 lbs. Too much! Realistic with one inch flats, I know, but too heavy for me. I'm just a little squirt. So I'll stick with my longrifle.

This has been an exhausting string of opinions. 🤪 You all keep this up and Mr. Kibler will drop the project because he just can't please everyone.
I would hope Mr. Kibler has thicker skin than some of the more sensitive members of this forum, who seem to take offense at the mere suggestion that a few of us are less than excited about this latest offering. It’s alright to have differing opinions.

I would imagine that Mr. Kibler recognized long ago that it’s impossible to satisfy everyone. In a world where opinions are as diverse as the people who hold them, it’s only natural that not every decision will resonate with every individual. Over time, he’s likely learned to focus on staying true to his vision, understanding that some level of criticism comes with the territory.

Well at the risk of sounding like a dick, or a spelling Nazi, I find it hard to believe that on a forum full of knowledgeable fans of the front stuffer, that many still say breach for breech!
Like nails on a chalkboard!

Or Hawkins.

Post has exploded since Jim 's latest video. Kudos to Mr. Kibler for all the research put into his labor of love. Was taught a straight rather than slanted hook breech indicated an earlier Hawken rifle circa J and S. Also the exact shape of terminal scroll on trigger guard could suggest an early or late style. But exceptions to both as the Hawken Shop would use whatever inventory they had. Neither Greg Roberts nor Art Ressel produced a half stock Sam Hawken rifle in flintlock because there is no evidence that they ever existed. Lyman Great Plains wanna be Hawken did have a flint version. Since Jim's interpretation of a classic halfstock Plains rifle is not a bench copy any design alterations he makes to improve handling or aesthetics in his mind's eye is his perogative. Just curious how he will treat ramrod pipe tube diameters as a 1/2" or 7/16" hickory ramrod doesn't fit inside a .45 caliber bore but a 3/8" will. More power to you.

After watching the vid my take is he's building a rifle with the period correct features that he would have ordered for himself as a customer after having seen and handled others rifles to see what he liked about them. I may have missed it but haven't seen one mention that the barrel will be tapered and slightly swamped.
Can't believe so many on here took the time out of their busy days to repeatedly tell everyone to include the man himself how wrong he is yet again. Tis sad.

While it’s true that no two original Hawkens were identical, there were distinctive features that defined them and made them immediately recognizable as Hawken rifles. These common characteristics set them apart from other firearms of the era. That said, Jim has already made it clear that he plans to incorporate a number of design concessions in order to make the rifle more appealing to a broader audience. As was just recently mentioned, he plans to do away with the swell in the middle of the stock which is present on original rifles.
Whether it’s an exact copy of a Hawken or not I don’t know and I doubt many of the potential buyers care if it is or isn’t.

I don’t see a problem with minor design differences to make it more visually appealing or better performing for the “broader” audience to enhance the ownership experience. It does still have distinctive features and looks that define it as a Hawken rifle so just call it that.

I don't think you understand. What I aim to produce is the best designed and most finely crafted 1850's Hawken styled rifle kits ever produced. I'm certain we'll achieve this goal. So, since I'm not copying an original this becomes "generic" in a derogatory sense? I'm pretty sure, I can defend the vast majority if not all design choices from a historical correctness perspective.
I’d ignore most of the really snarky ones. I watched your video. Looks like it will be nice. Sorry I prob won’t buy one because I have enough guns. When you make a Bedford rifle, THAT I’ll want 😜
