20 some years ago I went to the range and found my dentist trying to get his 308 to group from the bench. He had a problem of some sort.

I had my 54 GPR and shot a few good RB groups at 100 yd, open sights. As I recall, they were 2.5-3".

Talking with my dentist, he let on he'd never shot BP. So I put up a fresh target, loaded the GPR with 90 gr RS and handed it to him. His shot nestled into the centre of the target touching the X.

He looked at that target some time finally muttering, "I had no idea".

Since time was running short, we both had to leave. Never knew whether he got into BP. Probably a lucky shot anyway.

I bought a 50 caliber kit in the late 80’s and killed a bunch of deer with it. After many years of not being used I shot it some last fall, fun rifle.

My GPR .54 (bought in 1988) & my Pedersoli maple Hawken .54

so a BP rifle is more accurate then a .308??

I picked up this one up new from someone who bought it an never shot it. And at a great price!! The factory finish was thin and spotty. I refinished it, polished some of the steel parts and rebuked the trigger guard, butt and toe plates to a nice color. Super rifle!!!!

super nice

I also vote to validate the above comments about the Lyman GPR; they're great rifles. I hadn't thought about how the new Pedersoli would affect the price of older Lyman's, though. Nice to hear so many fellows attesting to affection for them. (Me=LH perc. .54 GPR Lyman)

Very nice. Are those wedge escutcheons and the nose cap in the white?

Yes I polished the nose cap, entry thimble, and escutcheons in the white and I changed the from sight out to a thinner silver blade. It’s in 50 cal and shoots very well. I love it!!!

My Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Maple .54 was too pretty for me. I sold it on this forum and still have a LGP .54. GPR Seems more like a working tool of a rifle than the prettied up Pedersoli. Just a personal opinion of course. I don’t mind laying my GPR down on some gravel or a concrete shooting bench but I felt like my Pedersoli needed a silk pillow to rest on.
