I also vote to validate the above comments about the Lyman GPR; they're great rifles. I hadn't thought about how the new Pedersoli would affect the price of older Lyman's, though. Nice to hear so many fellows attesting to affection for them. (Me=LH perc. .54 GPR Lyman)
How has the price of "original" Lyman's beef affected by the Pedersoli? I'd guess increased price based on the high cost of current ones from Peder.

My Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Maple .54 was too pretty for me. I sold it on this forum and still have a LGP .54. GPR Seems more like a working tool of a rifle than the prettied up Pedersoli. Just a personal opinion of course. I don’t mind laying my GPR down on some gravel or a concrete shooting bench but I felt like my Pedersoli needed a silk pillow to rest on.
The actual 19th Century users of these rifles worked them hard; they were indeed a real working tool!

I picked up this one up new from someone who bought it an never shot it. And at a great price!! The factory finish was thin and spotty. I refinished it, polished some of the steel parts and rebuked the trigger guard, butt and toe plates to a nice color. Super rifle!!!!
Wow. Who'da thunk our Lyman GPRs would become "collector items"!?

I had to do that to 2 of mine I got

Aaaah, thanks my friend.
I can't even see a target 800 yards away unless it is a barn door..
Couldn't hit a barn door either....LOL
Here's proof of a target a lot closer:

Im glad you missed all those shots. It made the video more fun. I mean that as a compliment. Thank you for showing it. Keep them coming

How did they turn out Frankie?
There were a lot of buffing marks on the barrels from the factory. New (lyman great plains). Their bluing was thin. I polished the barrels and hot blued them. Used tung oil on the stocks. Their finish was thin. The bluing sucked, only on the barrels. The rest of the hardware, the bluing was top notch. I just love the gpr"s. Triggers on mine are great and they are very accurate. I have GPR"s from the 70 and 80"s and the quality is top notch. I have 50 and 54 calibers

I have two Lyman Great Plains rifles one in 54 and the other in 50. I just picked up the 50 at auction this past week both guns shoot true definitely my favorites

so a BP rifle is more accurate then a .308??
BP covers a huge number of different firearms , ages , calibers and ignition systems , .308 is a caliber . Depending on the firearms involved , distances and the sighting systems a black powder rifle will shoot along side a modern centerfire rifle or better or worse . But the BP firearm will beat the modern cf rifle in the fun stakes every time .

edw. I really like your maple stocked Bp. Im wanting to order one but I'm afraid they may send me one that is only half figured. Yours is great.

All the Pedersoli maple stocked Rocky Mountain Hawkens that I have seen have figure throughout the stock.

Here are my favorite short rifles. A Pedersoli plains rifle in .50 cal with a 1 in 24 twist and a CVA Big Bore Mtn rifle in .54 cal ,this was a kit and the barrel is not marked Spain or USA. Very low serial number.
