Each to his own, 9mm is common police carry as well as many citizens and not exclusive to a punk.
Now I have no issue as to how you run your world, I run mine to suit myself as much as I can, its a right. I traveled a lot when I was younger and I carried a 22, I was confident in my abilities to shoot it where it needed to go. Sadly I am not that good anymore.
That said I don't try to drive a buggy on the freeway either (well at all let alone in any traffic). I tried a 450 Honda and that was bad enough.
One aimed round is worth hundreds of scattered rounds. Its really about comportment and how you manage vs a caliber or a type. You point your BP at me and I for sure am going to skeedadle.
9mm SD ammo is equally on par with any round out there. so shrug.
I just don't like plastic guns and this thing is shooting well with 200g conicals. I shoot it almost every day now untill I start training for biathlon again which will be in two weeks or so. Right after the muzzle loader deer season ends i will switch it up and start training mostly with the Lepage but will still shoot the 1858 at least once a week. I have a 5" steel plate at 25 yards that I can ring regularly with the 1858. I dumped a full magazine at that thing a few weeks ago with a modern gun and didn't hit it once... so yes my 1858 is my go to pistol these days...
It has become my go to edc onthe ranch and around society.
Got a nice shoulder rig from triple k and its not pulling my pants down anymore which makes it a lot less hastle.
Odds of me needing it in a self defense scenario against a human are extremely slim due to my isolation and I enjoy the history of carrying such a firearm in this particular area.

The whole area is going caliand property taxes have tripled.........the last,best place has fallen.
That is the interesting thing with guns (and other stuff). Something suits you to a T and that is more important than all the tech details.
My 22 Served me well for a lot of years. It last duty in that regard was to deal with an angry dog. It was the closest and I could still shoot pistol freehand (15 years ago).
A true lesson in trigger control. The Model 41 has a delicate trigger (for target work) and I was squeezing it when the dog did a 90 deg turn and out a gate. Phew. I did not know you could start to squeeze that trigger and not have it fire. I had no desire to shoot the dog, but a hostile dog in our back yard with our cat hiding............
I had too many dogs come after me to even think about it. I was talking to the dog but it was, you don't really want to make me do this! I am guessing the tone was what got him to turn but the 22 was next between his eyes.
Not something I want to do but an abused dog is extremly dangerous.
Went on a pretty long ski hunt today. Did a bunch of trail work, lots of blowdowns so I brought a hand saw and an 1858 instead of a rifle. easier to ski with. I tracked a buck for a bit untill he crossed a stream that was too much for me. would have gotten really wet.
Its thick up there and lots of wet heavy snow.
apparently I need a flap holster for this kind of stuff.
especially cutting down branches and dragging them.
it was too warm . everything soaking wet from melting snow. when I got back to the house instead of a six shooter I only had a 4 shooter. Need that flap holster. My extra cylinder in a leather pouch with nice tight flap shot perfectly but two of the loads in my gun needed a second cap to go off. Caps fired but not the charge. first misfires I have had since switching to conicals and a good reminder to keep your powder dry. Really bummed that my loading lever catch fell off while I was cleaning. no excuse for that. I now have it JB welded on but it should really be silver soldered and I don't know anyone who can do that. .
