I am still working on a PC folding knife with a spring. On the shoulder (front) bolsters (steel)- I want to file three top to bottom grooves at the rear of the bolster- next to the scales, and then in front of those three groves, at a right angle, make parallel grooves from front to back- stopping at the first top to bottom groove. Hope I explained it okay.
If I use needle nosed files the grooves might not be parallel and of equal width and depth. I am thinking I need some sort of a filing guide or different tool. I know there are files that can do metal checking.
Any thoughts, help appreciated.

When I wanted to do something like that I just made a two row checkering file.
I used a regular checkering file to make one out a piece of spring steel.

If you want to do it on the cheap, take some hacksaw blades and sharpen the teeth to
a knife edge clamp three of them together with spacers for your width.

Yeah, I'm always looking to save $ if feasible. I'll try that hacksaw idea on scrap metal.-thanks.
