I would have liked to see the UP..

A friend was there. Large private land. Elk too on it.

I planned to go a few years.. things didn't happen.

It got sold now..

It's a long drive now to hunt public in the UP. and not know what I'm walking into..

My story.. the first year there.

The first year I hunted MI..
I went in the woods. all the locals said not to..

I didn't think. like it can't be that bad.

I was walking past everything. I was like keep going keep going keep going..

I looked at the GPS.. lol I was almost to the other side.. I didn't know if it was even safe to turn around and take the woods back.. or walk all the way around on the road and stay out of the woods..

I made it out alive anyway.

Didn't know spears allowed in MO. Atlatls have been legal. 50 bmg outlawed in Colo. But can use a .338 lapua. Are atlatls a legal means of take in Michigan? How about spears? When the herds are reduced to good balance will the muzzle loading season be re instated in Michigan? Sounds like a cluster- f in terms of over crowding and zoo during season. So sad to see what ml season degenerated to.

Right..
And everyone likes there muzzloader.

Muzzloader is a nice season in most places.

I'd go with make it all worse.. only way to fix it.

I think even 1 buck tag would work better..

I mean everyone going to shoot a doe right away.. they don't have 2 buck tags.

They probably need those bucks shot to though..

Earn a buck tag.. you need to fill the doe first.

You have private hunting lands that's doing one thing.

Public doing another.

What you see on one place might not be the same down the street.

These deer are funny.. they know where to go..

Like I hunted a farm here..

2 bothers fighting. one was a big bully..

I saw no deer. No one saw a deer all week. Why. He drove around the brothers property shooting and yelling and all.. pushed everything onto his land before hunting season.

The guy told me in secret what happened because I new something going on with those deer.. he didn't want everyone to know. We paid to be there.

Its just..

The only people that are going to complain dogs..

Private land hunters. They were sitting pretty until dogs ended up chasing all those deer away. I don't feel bad.

Just the fact that I know. Those dogs are going to end up over there.

That's good 👍

I vote.. dogs.

If that was allowed on private land maybe better. They need to run private land with those things. Push them deer back out of some sanctuary

Wow..

Looks like They stopped the coyote hunting..
They were crazy about shooting them there.. running dogs and all..

Can you run the coyote with dog still.

Look like there going to let the coyote population increase. 😆

The coy dog is different..

They pack up good. They hunt deer like crazy.

They eat those buck in the snow. whole pack bitting the deers ass till its done. The buck can't run on top of the snow. but the coyote with thin layer of ice.. they catch those deer easy then.

They kill the deer by nipping at its ass till its done..

I know the mess..

No ones going to shoot a doe.
Depends on ones motivation not to mention beliefs. Everyone wants that Trophy Buck. And was a time in Michigan where one Buck per year was all you could take regardless how you took it. You could try the lottery for a Doe permit but, you were still limited to ONE animal.

Now if my goal is to put food on the table, I'll take the first large, healthy animal that comes along. If not I might wait most the season looking for that buck. Especially if I know for certain one is in the area I'm in.

I prefer to hunt with a bow. Stalking from the ground. No dogs or tree stands for me.

Compared to where I;m located land is cheap in the UP.

I forget the exact number but if you were to draw a line across the state roughly just north of Flint, some 80% of Michigans population live south of that line.

You can't bow hunt from the ground just anywhere in this country.

Michigan. I seen deer on the ground posted with the bow i had chances to shoot a doe and one younge buck ran around me.. I'll give it to you that's cool and fun...

I hung some scent one day over a scrape.. I walk 20 yards. Was looking for a tree to post. Turned around.. 4 pointer smelling the rag.. I didn't get a shot. That was bow.. middle of the last week.

Yes. Last two weeks of bow season is very good.

Nor can one gun hunt just anywhere. But one must start with the landowners permission.

I have a farmer friend who raises beef. He allows bow hunting but not gun on his property. He says for some reason the gun hunters have a more difficult time distinguishing between a deer and a steer.

It occurs to me that the deer will naturally seek out those areas where hunting is either restricted to some extent or simply not allowed. And as the deer population grows in these areas, eventually the land owners will be screaming for the hunters to come and hunt.

have you try'd the clear strait ammonia. during the Rut.

It doesn't work here the same.

I saw mostly all doe when I used it.. 1 young buck. but they follow that scent line.. had a group of 9 or 12 all with there noses on the ground.

Nope! My health has kept me out of the hunt for 20 years now. And before that my career kept me overseas. I took my last deer in 77.

Yup.

You know the property across from me was..

I think Florida hunters..They were kinda nasty.

They left deer on the river Bank for me to watch rot away.

I found blood all around my spot there.

They were screaming at me to not even think about shooting across the river one morning..

I had a deer crossings right there. They crossed the river on either side of me.. it was a nice spot. I didn't need to shoot across the river. After they dumped deer on the bank and left.. then I saw no more deer cross.

Well with the size of the deer down there they're probably trying to get all they can to have a decent meal. Must take six or seven animals to feed one teenager down there. :)

Hmm you know..

It sucks to have no wardens..

I called them ounce. He told me sorry that it's just him. He said if he's not there by 1030pm he's not going to make it.

The guys Lapeer were calling the game warden about.. guts piles all over there camp. In the fire pit etc.. guy down the street. He would leave his guts there and an empty box of cigars on them all.. they called a few times and got no where. They even asked me to call so that maybe if there's more calls that someone will come stop that..
