Can't hurt to give it a try.
I sometimes double patch my cleaning jags to get a good tight seal while pumping the water. Never tried a mop.

Yes, a pound of real black powder takes up less space than a pound of Pyrodex.

Pyrodex used to advertise "30 percent more shots than black powder" because it is 30 percent less dense so one pound of Pyrodex takes up 30 percent more space.

Pyrodex per cubic inch is less dense than black powder but a cubic inch of it produces the same energy as a cubic inch of black powder. That is why you can use the same powder measure to charge your gun with either powder and get close to the same results (except for the speed of ignition).

Your dad should have asked if the guy he bought the powder from had any 2Fg powder.
Although it fouls a little bit more than 3Fg powder it still ignites much easier than Pyrodex and will work in guns that are .45 caliber and larger.

I just used the bore mop to flush the gun and it did what it was intended for. But someone said to get the bolster below the nipple inside clean without taking out that screw that I should drop some rubbing alcohol in there. I found that I only have 70% rubbing alcohol stuff. Will that work because I've always heard 90% around here.

Lucas,

70% will work just fine, it will just take a few seconds more to evaporate.

How did you do shooting today? Did your rifle fire O-K? Was the real black powder easier to clean-up?

Dave

You can get 91% alcohol at most any pharmacy and it has less water in it than the 70 % stuff. Worth the few extra cents to be sure no water is left in the bore. Good smoke, Ron
