my 45 kentucky flinter seems to be misfireing more these days.. got good flints..could it be mainspring ware? :( ..how would one find out its the mainspring?

What kind of spark are you getting? You stated that the flints are new. Are they in the correct position to make a spark? Sometimes when you switch flints, some folks use a huge chunk of rock that weighs more and slows down the speed of the strike.

Once all of these matters are addressed, then the spring comes into play.

Have a great Turkey Day!

:hmm: ..Hmm i did just switch to Italian flints :hmm: ..they are the right size.and there knapped good i beleve..and thanks

Assuming by misfiring you mean there is no flash in the pan, first check out the amount of sparks your getting into the pan now. It should be a shower of them.
If it was a real sparker before you changed the flint and now it isn't, don't blame the new flints until you have tried them in several positions (including upside down).

The edge of the flint sometimes is not in the same place so they take some adjusting.
This adjusting is not only side to side and in/out. It can require changing the thickness of the pad to raise or lower the whole thing.

It's little things that can make the difference.
