I'll be heading over to Jeff's shop tomorrow to work on the stock. Today I worked on filing the brass in my shop. It's getting there.

Jeff and I put in some hours working on inletting the barrel today.

Slowly but surely the barrel is moving down and the channel is taking shape.

Today we drilled the Ramrod channel. It turned out perfect! Next we cut the forestock, and sides of the buttstock down. It looks like a rifle now. Afterwards I got a lesson in how to sharpen my gravers and did some practice engraving.

Thanks OS! Having that RR channel and hole done is a milestone. Now we can move on to the lock.

Today I went to my teachers shop and worked on the rifle for a few hours.

Our next step was to square up the back of the barrel.

Then cut the breech plug tang down and file it square.

Installing the breech plug. My teacher has all of the cool tools!

After we had the breech plug installed we made several small bends in the tang to match the line of the wrist.

Here we're taking a look at how the Davis double set triggers will line up with the sear.

We did some work on the the trigger guard tenons so I can continue to file and shape in my shop.

Read this thread before you inlet those set triggers. Your post suggests you are following conventional wisdom or Track of the Wolf's instructions. Ignore them and read the thread below.

Maybe it's supposed to be a leopard or a cheetah or something? Frankly I don't really think it looks like a dog, and it doesn't look like a lion either compared to the very blatant lion on the L/L rifle. Who knows! I don't remember who started calling it the 'two tailed dog,' I think Stan Hollenbaugh was the first guy I heard use that term at least 15+ years ago or more. The name stuck, though.

I believe it's a panther.
