Also they just sold a Uberti Santa Fe Hawken as well...

I think it was listed for $395.00. But remember that is not a finished rifle. It is still shown on TOW's website. Sale Pending

Robert

Nope shore don't .. they already had "sale pending" on them all when I saw them of course! :hmm: :yakyak:

My local gun dealer has a nice Browning Mtn. rifle in .45 cal in excellent condition for $500 bucks and you might get it cheaper if you beg. It's been sitting there for a while now.

I have one of the very early Navy Arms Ithaca Hawkens and its a dandy. I'm a big Hawken nut and I love Sharon Hawken rifles as well. They shoot lights out. John Bergmann specializes in Hawkens, I have an early one fullstock flint and I love it but if I were to get another built and wanted to spend the extra money I would go with Don Stith for all the work and research he has into it.

The Hawken Shop in WA claims to have original tooling from the shop of the Hawkens (ORIGINAL HAWKEN, e.g. Gemmer passed from from Hawken) . It is a kit so check it, and to do your self a favor from the many suggestions from this forum, be sceptical, good luck and post what you've created!!!

Im not 100% sure it's been way to long but "think" "The Hawken Shop" org was a Don Stith shop and he sold it for the one he does now, OR something like that, but they do have some of the org Hawken stuff. Fred :hatsoff: If nothing eles the org pic's are neat. :)

You asked "most authentic" = Don
Stith, the others don't come close. :( I have seen a couple, and they are dandy's, slimmer than they look, and slimmer than others actually are. If you don't buy one, just get a $125 pawn shop T/C. :v

What time period R we talkin. Most r caplocks. I like the Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawkens. I wan't to get one.

1840 on up, to ? today? ( It would seem) fRED :hatsoff: ( really about the 1850s) ck Gray Wolf's Hawken answer in History Ac site " TOW HAWKEN's"

Gotta say that if you're bothered by small details and authenticity, it might be a good idea to get a Lyman kit, or my speculation, a kit from Pedersoli or one of the small shops.

My only experience is with the Lyman, but the wood on the stock is proud enough, there's enough for you to form in any details that appeal to you from pictures of the originals. You can also pick your metal finish. I hacked and rasped enough wood off my Lyman kit that not only does it look significantly different than a stock GPR, it also balances better for my taste.

Won't say my new version is any more authentic, because I combined bits of styling from several that I looked at on the web. But if I wanted to match the detailing on any one of them, there was plenty of wood available. Pick some new sights from TOW, and the stamping on the barrel might be the only clue it wasn't an original.

Hi, I´ve got a Pedersoli Hawken too.

Shoots very well, better than me...

I´m still testing but a good result gave so far Maxiballs with 65 grs of Swiss #2

A german gun magazine tested it with .535 RB and it shot hole-in-hole.

For a factory-made gun I would say it´s quite well made.

Many greetings from germany

Good Morning CaptainCaveman,

Just so you know, there is at least one authenic period Hawken rifle fitted with a single set trigger.

The rifle is pictured in the book, Fifteen Years in the Hawken Lode.

Best regards and good shooting,

John L. Hinnant

If you are not an NRA or NMLRA Member, why not? I am carrying your load.

I never said single triggers weren't PC. Just said I like double set triggers better for no other reason than I just do

Josh

AS I said above but should of gone farther about those.. See Build Bench 12/07 " LYMAN in GRAY by 41Aeronca a great looking one, not a Hawken but I would grab it as fast as any copy I have of one except one not done yet. :winking: Fred :hatsoff: Hope to bring it home (to Alaska) in May Ive only been gone since 1950. :rotf:

OH NOOOOOOOOOOO......can it be.....gulp.....does this mean.....is it true.....that the TC Hawken is NOT the real deal?????????????????????

Gosh darn it...I thought death bed statements were like gospel so I believed them!

All those deer...they always said the same thing right at the end:

"Oh no, it's that guy with the Hawken"

:rotf:

Hey Roundball thought you replaced alot of those T/C Hawken barrels with Grenn Mountain barrels just like alot of us have. Does that make it more or less authentic? :hmm: Either way I still love mine.

Haven't replaced a single TC barrel with a GM barrel, and use my TC .45/.50/.54cal rifle barrels the majority of the time.

The only GM barrels I have are ones that TC doesn't make...a .40cal Flint rifle barrel, .54 & .62cal Flint smoothbore barrels, and a .58cal Flint RB barrel.
