I recently purchased one of these with two other firelocks from Middlesex Trading. I have re-worked the 1717 French musket heavily, and getting it as close as I can to originals I have seen in photos. I removed nearly 1lb of wood from the forearm, and the wrist area.

However this doglock is oversized greatly in the wood. It has nearly 1/3rd more wood than it should from what I can tell.

Has anyone re-worked one of these? Photos of how it should really look? Dimensions?

Gren,

MVTC has a reference on their web site to Pg 163 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. That may be a place to start looking.

Sorry, I wrote before my eyes caught up. Missed the part about a blundrbuss.

Neumann's book, "History of the Weapons of the American Revolution" has a section of blunderbusses with photos and dimensions.

It's been a while since I've read it, but Boarders Away Volume II by William Gilkerson had quite a bit on Blunderbusses and Musketoons in it I believe. Great reference overall.
